the child whimpered as her mother finished her horrible work and turn to her, she retreated behind her curtain of chestnut hair "now poppet, you'll be a good girl and tell nobody where daddy went, will you? You'll just keep smiling" the child nodded her head furiously, running away to wash the blood and shredded skin from her hands, tears cutting hot paths in the red.
-four years later-
"Levinne Cagliostro, get your lazy behind down here, don't make me call your father" Levinne was up in a flash, she knew what that threat really meant, she shot down the stairs still tying the sash at the back of her blue dress, her hair frizzy and tangled "useless girl, you're a mess" her mother smiled and pushed her gently towards the kitchen "and you're half an hour late for making breakfast"
the oven crackled lightly as the buns sat above the flame, the smell of cinnamon and honey filling the room, she set the food on the plate, sprinkled the powdered sugar over it and picked it up, she had the plate in one hand and the tea in the other as she walked into her mother's office "about time, I see you're as slow as ever".
