His heart pumped.

Once.Twice.

And then slowly, a million times.

It was painful, but it felt good.

It felt good to feel the beating again. To feel the blood running through his veins again and to feel alive again.

His body was numb. His body was cold.

Nevertheless, he tried to open his eyes that were closed for some time. How long? He wasn't sure but when he did open them, he was met with complete brightness. Perhaps, he slept for too long or perhaps, it was all just a dream.

He remembers the pale, cracked ceilings of the hospital, the smell of the medicines, and the faint, creepy noises of nurses chattering and pushing the wheelchairs of elderly men and women.

He could hear the heart monitor beeping normally. Sometimes a beat too fast but normally. There were a few tubes stuck to his chest and a tube attached to his nose.

Gray didn't like any of these things. It annoyed him and it made him feel sick. So he took off everything that was marked as malady and the beeping of the monitor stopped.

Upon seeing Gray attempting to stand up on his weak legs, a nurse came running towards him in haste.

As he was about to fall, she grabbed his weak body and placed him back on the bed.

"You can't be walking just yet." She informed. Her blue hair was cutely tied in a bun and her wide eyes wandered over the absolute impassivity on his face. Gray once more tried to detach himself from the bed but the nurse stopped him.

"You might feel pain if you try to burden yourself."

Gray's eyes turned wide and he clutched his heart.Pain...?

Strange...why couldn't he feel any pain?

He looked at the nurse and her expression suddenly turned dazed upon seeing cold tears roll down on his cheeks.

"Are you okay...?" She asked and held his hand. It was freezing but the warmness of her hand melted the numbing of the fingers.

"What...happened?" His voice cracked and he was intently staring into the nurse's eyes to receive an answer.

"What do you mean?" She softly asked. Rather to not make him anxious of something.

"Who...?" He stared down, unable to stop the flowing tears. Yet, he felt no pain whatsoever.

"Who?"

"Who gave me a heart...?"

She looked at him for a while, hesitant to answer him. She grasped her side pocket and crunched it tight in her palms.

"Who...? Please...?" He asked again. His deep voice penetrated her heart.

Eventually, she couldn't keep it to herself even if she told her to. Even if she told her to give it to him after he was well, she just couldn't do it.

"A girl." The nurse said.

"A girl...?" Gray mumbled to himself. "Her name?"

The nurse pondered for a while as she had forgotten the girls name. It was a month ago that she met her at such circumstances and the only time she said her name was while giving her name as the heart donor.

"I don't remember--"

"Was it Erza Scarlet?"

Gray wished the nurse would shake her head or say 'No'. He wished so hard that what he was about to hear would be something different and that he didn't had to worry about it. But, as the nurse's eyes sparkled in geeting the right answer, Gray's eyes turned blur.

"Yes! It was Erza Scarlet who gave you her heart."
