It was dinner time and I sat staring at him, waiting for my food.

Finally he gave it to me and I gobbled it up. However instead of backing away from the dish like normal, I pushed the bowl towards the back of the cage with my nose.

He looked at me and I could smell the anxiety, curiosity, and slight amusement coming off of him.

I went and laid on my bed as he cocked his head at me. He then walked out of the room and brought back the alpha.

The alpha laughed and pointed at the bowl.

"Well you're just gonna have to go in and get it."

Get it. I kept my tail from wagging at those words. Time to see what this tough guy was made of.

I didn't move from my bed as he started fiddling with my door. When he was about to open it I smelled the spike in his anxiety.

The door slowly opened. He stepped inside and gently closed it.

I sat up but remained on my bed. He kept an eye on me as he walked back and picked up the bowl.

Just as he turned to leave, I made my move. I leapt up and planted myself between him and the door, barking and growling.

The man jumped in surprise but he didn't cower and there was no overwhelming smell of fear. His heart beat a little faster but it wasn't pounding out of his chest.

"Platz."

His voice was commanding and I stopped barking.

"Dodger platz."

I growled and took a step towards him. Instead of backing up, he took a step towards me.

Oooo this guy was good. But I was better.

I launched myself at him, but he used my bowl like a shield and used it to deflect me.

Now he was closer to the door. I let out a low growl but didn't advance towards him. He had beat me. To my surprise he didn't run out of the cage, instead he stared me in the eye.

"Platz."

His voice was even and I could detect the hint of dominance in his voice.

He could have gone out of the cage, but he had stayed. He told me to lay down and he wasn't leaving until I did. He didn't just want to be the person that took care of me. He didn't want to just order me around. He wanted to be my partner.

He had passed the test.

Granted I still didn't trust him, but he had earned himself one slim shot. Just one. Time would tell if this guy was like everyone else, but for now I would give him a shot.

I slowly lowered myself to the ground, keeping my eyes locked on his. He turned his back and walked calmly out of the cage and relocked it.

The guy had guts.

"That was incredible. That dog hasn't listened to anyone since his handler died. Color me impressed Captain Rogers."

They shook hands and the alpha walked away. I continued watching this "Captain" guy. He stared back looking like he was thinking about something. Then he walked away.

He returned a few minutes later with a bulge in his pocket. I immediately started growling at it, unsure of what it was.

"Easy Dodger. Easy."

My nose started twitching. That smell. Oh that heavenly smell. I would know that smell anywhere. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. He had them in his pocket. I wanted them. I wanted all of them. Gimme gimme gimme!

I locked eyes with the man and didn't move a muscle. For the first time there was no hatred in my eyes at this man.

The man chuckled before putting his hand in his pocket. I took a step towards him anticipating what was about to be revealed. And then there it was. In all it's glory:

BACON TREATS!!!!!!

I couldn't help but let out a small whine of excitement.

"So the dog with a heart of stone does have a weak spot." He laughed.

Dude! Stop talking gibberish and just give me the bacon! I. NEED. MY. BACON!!

I liked my lips and tried to convey with my eyes just how badly I needed this bacon.

"Sitz."

My butt touched the ground instantly, but I kept my eyes on the prize.

"Platz."

I had flopped to the ground before he had finished the command.

Captain smiled.

Dude I am dying over here! This is no time to be happy. This is life or death right now.

He opened the bag and that heavenly, wonderful smell overwhelmed my nose. I whined again and my tail swooshed across the floor once. He pushed the treat through the fence and I caught it before it hit the ground. I began prancing around the cage with it held in my mouth and my victory tail wagging behind me. I then laid down and began chewing on the treat. I whined in happiness and my tail swooshed three times.

"Whadda ya know? You actually can be a normal dog." He mumbled, reminding me of his presence.

Ok well he may have just gained some serious brownie points, and was officially my favorite person here, but I still don't trust him.

"Good boy Dodger."

And with that he left me to my bacon treat.

Sorry it's been awhile but I'm crazy busy and it's not going to be slowing down anytime soon because I'm getting a new puppy! I will try and update but I'm sorry for not being able to often.
