After we left my tree, a rough gush of wind and rain slammed into us, almost like a slap in the face. Drops of water attached themselves to our pelts, sliding down each individual strands. Arnica trotted beside me, mud and rock sliding under both of our paw pads. "we aren't going the right way, Karma. We h-.." I cut her off in a blurb of words.
"Then lead the fucking way then?" My voice splattered out of my trauche.
"I need to make a portal or something. Just give me a minute to concentrate." I glared at her curiously. I started to get frustrated. This would have just been easier if I had killed her yesterday.
She flopped down onto her rump, which would probably be all muddy now. She slip closed her visuals, raising up her two fron paws. They began to morph into stubby, human-like hands. She muddered strange words. I figured they were latin. The wind picked up, swirling bundles of leaves and twigs through the air. It whistled in my audics, the rain still trying to pierce my skin.
A light blue sphere formed, floating above the ground. The towering trees ruffled, the poen field beside the cliff we stood apon rumbled at our touch. The sphere sparked, blowing a ring of light out through the air, almost slicing me in two. I stared intensely at it. I was new to this portal travelling thing.
"All done. Are you ready? This will take us outside of town, but we won't be there for long." She gestured at the glistening portal. I glared at it for a moment. And back at her. I hesitated, but stepped forward eventually. Before I could fly through it, Arnica stopped at me, and barked out her words.
"You should probably use your human form while we're there. No ears and tail either." I began to notice Arnica's change in personalities, but I kept the knowledge to myself. I gave her a quick nod, swiftly morphing into my human form. Running my fingers through my silky, slick-backed hair, I smirked at Arnica.
"Since we need to blend in, you're going to play as my good little puppy dog." I heard her grunt, but shrugged it off as I jumped up with one leg, landing in the mouth of the portal.
I screamed, face planting into the ground as I fell from the portal. Mud laced my clothes. I growled, attempting to scrape it off of me. It worked somewhat. My arms bent as I clenched the ground beneath my stomach, raising myself up apon my knees. I didn't get very far up, when I felt Arnica's fat ass land onto my back. The impact sent me back down into the mud. I growled under my breath as I flipped myself up onto my feet, swiftly twirling around with my handsupporting me on the ground.
"Are you fucking serious, kid? You had to land on me, didn't you?" I picked myself up eventually. Arnica didn't reply to me, just shrugged. "If I'm going to be your dog, go buy rope or something at that shop across the road." My glare dragged itself over to the small, shitty looking shop across the street from us. It was white, cracked and smelly. The windows had bars on the inside, and a small rusted golden bell above the door. You could see food and whatever else was on the shelves from the windows.
"Fine. Stay here." She nodded at me, and I stepped towards the edge of the road, quickly shuffling across it to the shop's doorstep. My hand reached out and pushed at the door, dinging as it opened. The shop keeper's eyes darted toward me. An old man with grey hair and a disturbing scar along his face. He smiled, his yellow, rotting teeth burning my eyes.
As disturbing as it was, I'd need to talk to the guy eventually. My fingers ran along the edge of one of the metal shelves. I wrinkled my nose, feeling dust pick up onto my fingertips. Eventually, I found the rope. Reaching for it, the man roared towards me.
"You better pay for that girl!" My brow rose. I didn't have any money. Maybe a gold carrot necklace would do the trick? I stole it from a corpse while wandering around my territory. Not sure how they died. I shrugged, throwing it towards the counter, hearing it ting at the impact.
Walking back out the door, I saw Arnica glaring down the walkway, watching people walk back and forth past a large statue. It had something ingraved on it, but I couldn't make out what it said. I hurried over the road, but stopped as I realised my feet were bare. I turned back around to the shop, noticing the guy behind the counter smiling at the necklace, rubbing the charm with his wrinkly thumb. I shrugged and ran back inside, glaring around the room, eventually spotting a pare of black combat boots. I grabbed them, and slipped them on. The leather reached just under my knees. I smiled, and ran back outside. Arnica had moved to this side of the road, glaring up at me.
"Done?" I grinned, gripping the rope in my hand.
"Mhm. Keep still." I wrapped it around her neck, not too tight. I tied a knot at the end so I could keep a grip on it easier.
"Where to?" Her head gestured down the pathway that lead towards the statue. Cars roared passed it. Busy street no doubt. The sun shon bright, and I hated it. Large multi-coloured buildings stretched up and down the roads.
"Let's go."
