I stared back at where I had been coming from. Another scream echoed. I shook my head and turned back towards the forest. I wanted to run, but I also wanted to help. I didn't know how I could help though, so I ran. Two more screams filled the almost silent night. Something in the small town was going badly. I had gone to help but was told to scram. They didn't need any rotten loners getting in the way. That's what the man told me. I had no idea what was happening. Was there a murderer on the loose again? Was there a poisonous snake? I know some people are terrified of them, but that wouldn't cause a total of now five blood freezing screams. My heart was still beating fast. It wouldn't calm down. I shivered in the cool night air. The wind blew my long brown hair everywhere. I looked down at a puddle. My dark blue eyes looked tired.
My stomach grumbled as I headed to a nearby dumpster. Another scream was heard. Nobody but me was on the streets. It was midnight. The full moon shone brightly overhead. The nights here are dark, but not nearly as dark as most places. I guess they could be classified as dim.
Every instinct was telling me to run. Get away from the screaming. Get away from the town that rejects me.
But, I'm a brave one, so I sat down next to the dumpster and pulled my thin, black jacket tighter around me. The baker sometimes gives me a scrap of stale bread that nobody wanted to buy. I got in big trouble last time I went dumpster diving somewhere. I was told that if I was caught doing it anywhere ever again, I would be in huge trouble.
