Day six at Katy's house.

"Hey, Katy, what day is it? Like, what day of the week?"
"Friday, why?"
"Oh, I was just curious."
"Oh my, I just realized, my parents come back this evening!"
"Is that good or bad?"
"I don't know! I'm not sure if they will approve or not of you being here!"
"Oh."
"Don't feel bad! Please!"
"Should I go?"
"Where will you go?"
"I'm not sure. I think I will keep wandering from town to town maybe. See if anybody takes me in."
"Maybe my parents will take you in?"
"Do you think they would? Be honest."
Tears started to appear in Katy's eyes. "No. Yes, they're doctors, they care for people, but, they were trained not to care for one person more than another. But, I don't want you to go! I hate to say it, but I've never had a friend before. Everyone thinks I'm weird, you are the first person to actually like me."
"I don't see how someone couldn't like you. You're so sweet and friendly!"
"I'm a nerd. I'm obsessed with books and flowers and learning and drawing."
"I think that's cool! You shouldn't be ashamed to be who you are."
We stood in silence for a minute before Katy broke it. "You know what?! I'm going with you! I also want to find somewhere to start over! Somewhere I am accepted and can be myself!"
"What?! But you have everything you could ever want or need here!"
"So?"
"You shouldn't take that for granted! The homeless life is not an enjoyable one! It's a constant fight for survival!"
"We can fight together!"
"I can't change your mind, can I?"
"Nope!"
"Fine. It will be nice to have some company."
"See! You will enjoy a buddy!"
"When do we leave?"
"I will write a note and leave it here for my parents to see. It will explain everything to them. Then I'll pack up all we will need and then let's go!"
"Okay!"
