Erik’s POV

I watched her still body lying on the bed. Mrs. Giry said that she’ll be fine; she just has to lie down for a while. No broken ribs or anything serious. Minor bruises surprisingly. But I was still worried about my angel. She’s been out cold for about 30 minutes.

That idiot who was beating her is the same one she’s been ‘friends’ with. He was the one dancing with her once I left. That’s how he knew she didn’t love him. And now he knows about us. I knew how he treated other girls so I should have just told Alice to not communicate with the damn boy!

I threw a book I was holding into a mirror, smashing it. I could have stopped this. She wouldn’t be in pain right now. I promised her I would let nothing harmful happen to her. But even if I told her to not talk to him, she still would have with her hard head. And that wouldn’t change the fact that he is still in love with her. Ever since he heard her sing. Just like me. It disgusted me how alike we were for that.

I was going to kill that man for sure! I could feel the hatred and fire building within me with every passing second. I kept glancing at Alice but she never stirred. That’s it! I can’t just sit here while he’s free and probably bragging about what he has done to my Alice! I grabbed my cape and lasso and headed for the boat, wondering if it was a good idea to leave Alice.

Suddenly there was movement at the bed. I rushed to her side immediately, grabbing hold of her hand. “Darling? Are you alright?”

She groaned. “What the hell happened? And why does my head hurt so much?” Her free hand grabbed her head.

“That idiot Elijah came after you when you went on the roof, then attacked you. I’m pretty sure he knows about us now.” Her eyes grew huge as she started to remember what happened. Then tears formed in her eyes. “What’s wrong? Are you in pain?” I asked worriedly.

She shook her head no as tears escaped her eyes. “It’s just, last night was supposed to be perfect! I had everything planned out and then HE ruined it!”

I climbed in the bed beside her and pulled her into my arms. “Shhh. It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here.” I soothed her and her sobs seemed to die down after a while.

“I’m sorry I ruined your night. It was supposed to be all big and dramatic because you were announcing to the managers that you were back and I-“

“No. You did nothing wrong, Alice. I did this all for you.” I told her truthfully.

She pulled away to look at me with her red and puffy eyes. “Really?”

“Yes Alice. I made that opera for you.”

“But, why?”

I paused. I can’t tell her I love her. I know she loves me but, I- what if she really doesn’t love me? What if she just fooled herself into thinking she loved me? I can’t I mean I know I have to tell her eventually but not like this. I cleared my throat. “Because, well, you deserve it. You are a phenomenal singer and they give you no credit whatsoever.”

Disappointment filled her face. “Oh, okay. Well, thank you Erik.”

I can’t be this close to her anymore. Her smell was intoxicating me once more. I pulled myself away from her and walked over to my organ. “I am quite tired Erik. Plus I have a big day tomorrow. Can you sing me to sleep?”

I looked over at her pleading eyes and instantly gave in. “Alright. Just one song.” I placed my hands on the organ gracefully and let the notes flow through me as I began to play and sing.

“Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Helpless to resist the notes I write
For I compose the music of the night
