The first thing to disappear was small.

"Cassie." Her mum called out

"What?" Cassie answered

"Have you seen the spare key?"

"Nah. Maybe dad moved it."

"Yeah maybe. Could you ask him when he gets home. I'm leaving now."

"Ok cool."

"Dad did you move the spare key?" Cassie asked later.

"No. Isn't it in the flowerpot near the back door?"

"No, mum cant find it."

"I hope it's not stolen. Someone could get into our house with that. We should get the locks changed if it doesn't show up. I'll go next door and ask Alex if he's seen it. Wanna come see Mitch?"

Mitch was Cassie's neighbor, named after his great grandfather. He lived with his grandfather Alex.

"No thanks, I've got homework."

"What are you studying."

"Grammar comprehension. I have a test tomorrow."

"Remember to use a column for the start of a list." her dad said moving down the hall. "Hey Cassie." he called. "The key might not be a problem anymore."

"You found it?"

"No. no I did not."

Cassie walked over to where her dad was staring at the front door.

"Oh." she said, understanding. The lock was gone
