With the good, the dark memories returned striking deep into his heart and soul making him now slump down on his knees. The excruciating pain zillion times enhanced pushed the Original to his very limits.
Both Bonnie and Elena watched attentively, the witch ready to act if necessary.
And then, the dark anf evil part of the Hollow wedged itself with the monster within and Elijah now rose up vamping out charging at the witch and the doppelganger, the witch stopping him with just one gesture.
Once again Elijah was down on his knees holding his chest and then vamping out looked at them raging -
"You will not beat me"
Elena now went down on her knees telling Bonnie to let the arresting magic go.
"Elena, it is not safe"- Bonnie said.
"It is fine, really"- Elena said now putting both of her hands on Elijah's face looking straight into the Original's eyes.
His eyes connected now with Elena's, but still snarled at her.
"Bonnie, please"- Elena said. The witch sighed lifting the magic reluctantly.
Elejah's eyes still set on one another now streamed -
"Look into your Heart and your Soul, Elijah, let the love and compassion out"
"It is lost- I have none- it is gone. I am a monster- let me go!"
"It is there, I know it -and you know it too- come on- you can do this! I know you can! Look into your heart, Elijah!"
Elijah snarled at the doppelganger again, the dark magic that made them the monsters now battled with his human side fiercely, but Elena was not letting go even when she saw in her eyes that his soul was giving in to it, shinning through his not letting go of the light that was nearly dying away.
"Don't let go- I know it hurts- don't let those feelings control you- it will get better- I promise you- remember what you told me-what kind of a man would you be if you didn't look for - the real person under the facade of the monster. Yes, I have that same hope like you once said you had. I know the noble, kind, fearless man you are, Elijah."- Elena said.
And then, like a bad hex dissolved, Elijah's vampiric face shimmered into his human one. He took a deep breath moving slightly away from the doppelganger.
"Elijah?"- Elena now looked at the Original, who could not keep his tears from running down his face now like he was a child.
Elena embraced him dearly and then muttered softly -"It will get easier."
Elijah held onto Elena firmly.
When it will start
To feel easy?
Oh I know
And when it will start
To feel easy?Oh there is a place for me
Oh there is a placeWhen it will
It will
Oh I know
I'll find you there
Oh I know
I will find you thereElena now glanced at he witch, who just gave her friend a little nod gesturing to the door sort of saying that she was going to be in the next room. Elena responded with a little nod.
As the witch exited, Elijah then moved out of Elena's hug leaning on the wall now.
He was quiet, brushing his face off with his hands, giving Elena the kindest look he had ever bestowed on a person. Elena had the privilege to see that look a few times she had been with him, but this time it was with sincerest of hearts. For the first time in over more than a thousand years, his humanity reigned completely over the monster. The pain of all the monster within him had done so far was excruciating, but it was real, and not dimmed away by a facade he had build around it.
"Elena-"- Elijah now uttered-"I am so sorry for everything I have done -so sorry- everything- Trevor, the cave- everything- the list is endless- all in the name of family- for always and forever- for pitiful abominations that we are- Mother was right- we are an abomination- and the tragedy is she has created us- with the best of intentions- how ironic- and at first we could not control it"- and then his heart gushed everything out, his darkest moment attacking Tatia, through to others who crossed their paths, Aya, Strix, Aurora, Katherine, Halyey, especially why he stood by Klaus, the power and his all consuming love for his family that had taken him to the emotional abyss leading him to the point of choosing to erase his memories to the point.
Elena was quiet all along, listening, her eyes never leaving his.
"And you- you were this light that came shining out of the darkest of nights- and I have trespassed against you in the most despicable of ways."
"Elijah-"
"It is so. I do not know how you, after everything I have done, show me - mercy-"
"To right the wrong- I caused-"
"What wrong, Elena? What wrong could you have caused?"- Elijah didn't understand.
"You know."- Elena said taking a deep breath-"if I hadn't lied to you that night, everything would have been different."
"How do you- figure that?"
"I should have trusted my heart, but instead I chose not to tell you and everything went wrong. I wish I could go back to that moment and tell you what your mother was planning to do- and ask you to take Klaus away. Maybe Stefan would have still be alive- "
"Stefan? I thought you- married Damon?"
"Yes. I was with Damon, and married him. But- there was not a day that went by that I didn't think about Stefan and - what if- he didn't deserve to die. Not him. What if I had done things differently, what if I had not come between him and Damon- what if-"- Elena said her eyes watering.
"What if"- Elijah slipped and then added-"but we can't go by what if- we can't go back- what is done is done-"
"I know. What is done is done, and I should no look back, but - when I saw you- I just- I couldn't turn my back and not try to - help - I couldn't let it be. When you came to Mystic Falls, you wanted to save me, and I- try to make things better."
Elijah put his hand out to Elena and she took it. They sat like that hand in hand for a very long time silent until Elena fell asleep after a while.
