17: Tetris in His Side

Rhys

Alec walks past us and into the elevator banks without saying a word.

I quickly wave a goodbye to Asia who smiles tightly, before I take off following Alec. I manage to squeeze myself inside just before it's about to close. He just stares at me, a smile pulling on his lips. He taps the highest floor, the square button lighting up under his finger.

"Did they mention the rescheduled date of our tour here?"

I shrug and look away from him. "I'm not sure. Peyton said they are gonna wait for you."

It was a commotion I never witnessed before. The moment he broke down briefly and passed out, my heart had seemed to stop beating inside my chest. Everyone took a second too long to realize what happened. Cyprus and Peyton were the first ones to react as they were standing the closest to him. They had flipped him, shook his shoulders and wiped the few tears from his eyes discreetly.

The stadium went eerily silent as the staff section scurried into chaos. The entire scene broke my heart.

I have realized that my presence here was unwelcomed, greatly so. But I didn't know that it took too much toll on the rest of the band. Toro, Peyton, Cyprus, and Missori were civil to me the entire time, but I knew. I just knew that they were holding back on me. The dead eyes they'd given to me and the tight smiles that were too forced were just obvious.

And I had confirmed it as the paramedics were transferring Alec to the ambulance.

I'd been standing with the band beside Cyprus and Toro. When the ambulance pulled away with Alec in it, Cyprus turned to me, the anger in his eyes so clear I almost crumpled from the force of them. "I hope you are happy, Rhys. You have no idea what that boy had gone through to get us to where we are now."

Toro grabbed his arm just as he advanced on me. "Now, now. I'm sure this isn't what Rhys wanted—"

"What does she want then?" He smirked at me. "You want to fuck one of us, don't you? Just say the word, hon."

It sounded so vile, so crude. But for the first time since I met them, I didn't have it in me to call him out for it. The guilt I felt was too consuming, I just wanted to cry in my room alone and hope that this growing ache would vanish.

"All right, that's enough. Come on," Toro said, pulling him back to the hotel.

But the lean man he was, Cyprus removed his arms away from him and pointed at me. I was relieved that he didn't feel the need to get closer. Then he spoke his next words... and the few strings holding my heart in place snapped free. "Get the fuck out of here before it's too late, Tetris. We can fucking ruin you and you know it."

The saddest thing was, I did know it.

xxx.

"You're quiet," Alec says as the door opens.

We walk through the halls before we reach a set of stairs leading to the rooftop, the soles of our shoes tapping against the floor echo behind our backs. "Just have a lot in mind."

He motions for me to go first. I rear back, my brows wrinkling at his outstretched palm. "Nu-uh, you go first." Then I whisper, my imagination getting the best of me. "What if someone's making out up there, or someone's murdering somebody?"

"Red—"

"That's right. You don't know what's up there." I cross my arms. "You go first. This is your idea."
