Phil was most definitely not right.
After a few days of awkward eye contact being exchanged by both the teenagers in their class across the room, the teacher had taught the class the basics, mostly the proper lab procedures along with the appropriate lab etiquette.
Today, Dan's chemistry teacher had been explaining that the end of the week the class would begin doing projects in class with their chosen lab partners. The majority of the class was thrilled, Dan was not. Not only because he didn't like talking to his classmates (except for Phil of course), but because he knew that all of his peers had already thought ahead and chosen their partners and according to Dan's mental math (which wasn't always correct but still reliable once in a while), he believed that it only left Chloe and Dan without a partner.
Luckily for Dan, lunch finally came around, meaning that for at least 45 minutes of his busy day (which just consisted of him constantly filled with dread for his last period), he could relax, even if it was only for a moment. He scanned the clusters of students, looking for Phil, but didn't see him sitting anywhere. So Dan sat at one of the available tables and started picking at his sandwich.
As Dan struggled to open a bag of chips, someone slammed a tray onto the table, making Dan jump, open the bag and spill the bag of chips onto the table.
"Jesus Christ Phil," Dan muttered, rubbing his eyes, Phil chuckling as he took his seat.
"Come on you have to admit, that was pretty funny," Phil said as he twisted the cap of his water bottle.
"It really wasn't." Dan disagreed, glaring at Phil while eating the only chip left in the opened bag. He looked at one of the chips sitting on the table and pouted. "I really wanted to eat those."
"I'll buy you another bag later." Phil dismissed, taking a sip from his water bottle. Dan's eyes slowly were drawn to the bag of chips on Phil's tray. Phil caught sight of Dan's gaze and put his hand over the bag protectively.
"Don't even think about it Dan," Phil warned, and Dan huffed and slouched, crossing his arms over the table, continuing to stare at the chip that remained on the table, mocking him.
He was so entranced by the abandoned chip that he didn't notice when someone stood by the table and sparked up a conversation with Phil. At least, that was until Phil picked up the chip that he was staring at and threw it at him, hitting him on the nose.
"What the fu-"
"Language." Phil scolded, pointing a finger at Dan, then turning his attention back to the person next to him. Dan mocked Phil and rubbed his nose. That's when he wondered who Phil was talking to, and looked up, only to meet those same eyes he had looked at for the past few days.
Of course, Chloe was smiling down at the boys, holding her textbooks in her hands. Phil stopped his sentence, to see that her attention was pointed at Dan and then face palmed.
"Oh! I almost forgot. Dan, you know Chloe, right?" Phil asked, even though he already knew the answer to his question. Dan looked at him unblinkingly and Phil gave him a sly smile.
"I asked her to sit with us at lunch if that's okay with you?" Phil finished, and Dan ground his teeth and then placed a fake smile on his face.
"Yeah, that's fine," Dan mumbled and smiled up at Chloe. Phil smiled at Dan triumphantly and motioned for Chloe to sit next to him. Chloe did as told, and placed her textbook on the table, and awkwardly played with the cover, lifting it slightly, causing her fingers to flip through the top corner of the pages of the book.
