(H/T)-- Home Town

I woke up to my phone ringing loudly. I dared not even look at it, sitting on the nightstand. I knew it was him. Every morning at nine, almost like clockwork, he would call. Most of the incoming calls I would get throughout the day were from him alone. Sometimes I was just flat out scared of even looking at the damn phone. We'd only broken up a week and a half ago.., but it felt like I was dealing with this for forever.
I couldn't take it anymore. The incessant buzzing brung me the same headache I couldn't seem to shake, and finally I sighed and sat up. I stared at my phone blankly, seeing his name. It didn't even matter what I did anymore. I'd block his number, but he'd just get another one and start calling again. Once, I accidentally answered, thinking it was someone else, but he immediately started to beg and plead for me to take him back. Naturally, I hung up.
I had been wronged so many times by Joji, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to break it off. Our relationship was a ticking time bomb, and I didn't want any part of it anymore. Sighing as I swung my legs off of my bed, I stood, leaving my room to go to the bathroom and get ready for work.
Entering the (H/T) mall, I made a b-line for the Books A Million. In my purse, I could feel my phone vibrating furiously. He was now spamming my phone with text messages. I did my best to ignore them as I stepped into the store. "Morning, J! Morning Kyha!" I shouted into the store, Jeremiah and his fianceé, Nekyha, doing busy work around the store.
"Hey, Y/N!" Nekyha greeted, popped up from behind the counter.
"'Morning." Jeremiah grumbled from a bookshelf, a thermos of coffee in one hand, using the other to shelf some books.
I went into the break room, setting my things down as I put on my jacket. I pin on my name tag and exit the room, going behind the counter, sidestepping Nekyha who was restocking the bookmark container on the counter.
"So did Joji call again this morning?" She inquired.
"You know it." I said with a sigh.
"Why not just get a restraining order on him?"
"I-..." I stopped. Part of me wanted to, but part of me didn't... There was still a small, small piece of me that still loved him... I wish I could kill it; Squash it for good. But I couldn't. And I hated it. "I dunno.. Its... It's complicated." I said finally, grabbing a pricing gun and going over to the new Pop figures that we'd acquired.
"I don't see why. That dude's stalking you. He definitely needs to lay off." Jeremiah chimes in, going behind the counter with his soon to be wife. He handed her his thermos and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her head. I began to price the figures as I heard Jeremiah mumble, "Shortie."
"Shut the fuck up." She retorted with a pout. She sips from the thermos and all is quiet for a while.

"Y/N, can you go flip the sign please?" Nekyha asked softly as opening time rolled around.
"Will do." I replied, going over to the door. I flipped the sign in the window and gazed outward, seeing only a few people walking around. Probably employees at different stores.
The day went by smoothly, and before I knew it, it was one o'clock. This was around the time we'd get lunch.
"We're heading to Zaxby's. What do you want?" Nekyha asked as she grabbed her phone, pocketing it.
"Just get me whatever." I shrugged. "I'll pay you back."
Jeremiah nodded as he exited the store with his fiancée, holding her hand as they walked out of sight.
I sat in the chair behind the counter, scrolling through my Tumblr until I heard the motion triggered beep coming from the door. "Welcome to Books A Million. Let me know if you need help," I said cheerily as I looked up. The person had on a big hoodie and a hat that was pulled down low over their eyes. All I saw was a bit of raven coloured hair peeking out of one side.
Though, all of a sudden, their head snapped up. I gasped loudly.
It was him. I should've expected him to eventually show up at my job. This was fucking creepy..
"Y/N, please... Take me back! I can't sleep without you.. I can't eat without you.." He began to approach the counter, and I stumbled out of the chair.
"Get out of here, Joji! I'll..I'll call security!" I nervously blurted.
"Please! Without you...I... I live in a constant state of fear and misery!" He whimpered. I could see his eyes beginning to tear up. I've seen him cry before, and each time, I felt my heart tearing apart.
I furrowed my eyebrows as I stared at him. His eyes were dull and tired, bags under them as well. His skin was a sickly pale, his plump lips quivering as he tried not to break down. He was white-knuckling the counter, staring me down.
"Please.. I promise, things will be different!!" He bargained. His whole frame seemed to be shaking, making me worry.
"Joji, please, calm down!" I said. "You're going to send yourself into a seizure!" I said, stepping closer. God, I hated how I did this. It's like my brain would scream at my body to do one thing, but my heart would take over and make it do a different thing. My hand slowly came over the top of one of his, and I could instantly feel his body relax.
"Promise me you'll hear me out.." He said, sniffing pitifully.
I looked him in his eyes for the first time since he had entered and I sighed heavily. "Fine." I nodded. "But..But not right now. We can't do this here. Jeremiah and Nekyha will be back soon, and if they see you, they'll flip," I say, leaving from behind the counter. I gently nudge him towards the door. "Please. Just go. I'll text you later and then we can talk. Just," I sighed. "Go, please. I can't bear to see you like this." I shook my head.
He stumbled slightly but caught himself, nodding quickly. "Okay." He hesitantly turned to exit the door, taking what seemed like baby steps out into the open. As I watched him skitter away, I went back behind the counter. I plopped down in the seat, propping my elbows up on the counter. I stared at it for a second before lowering my head onto it, a gentle thud sounding.
    "Fuck my goddamn life."
