The two of us roll down the hill of daisies, laughing as we race to the bottom. "I roll faster than you!" I laugh aloud as I get up.
"Not true! I'm fastest-er in the whole world!" The blurry boy stands straight and folds his arms, puffing his chest out. "I'm going to be King, so I better be fastest-er-est!" The two of us laugh again before the energy dies down.
"Is it true you're leaving?" I ask, a small frown forming on my mouth.
The boy slowly nods, unfolding his arms and looking down. "Daddy says that bad people will hurt us if we don't."
Tears start streaming down my face as I beg "Please don't go, ______!" I hug the boy, petting his curly hair. "I'm sure my parents will take care of you."
"Daddy says I'm going with him, so I can't stay with you, Khione." The boy pulls away before saying "there is a way for us to find each other again, though!" He smiles before pulling something out of his pocket.
A knife.
"______, what is that?" I ask nervously.
"I saw this at a ceremony my dad brought me to. We combine blood so we can always tell where the other person is if we wish to. This way it'll be easier to find each other." The boy makes a cut in his hand and hands the knife to me.
I stare at it for a second before asking "will it really bring me to you?" The boy nods and I take his word for it, making a small cut in my hand.
The boy clasps my bleeding hand with his, our blood mixing. "Now we proclaim our love to each other." He giggles and I smile.
"I love you, ______." I smile at the boy as the image starts to fade, reading the boys lips as they silently form the words "I love you too, Khione Heart."
"Oh, Khione," I hear as my brain slowly shifts from dreamland to reality. "Wake up, sweetheart," the voice calls out again. After a second of still being half asleep, I feel someone grab hold of my arm, the feeling of the hand being oh so familiar. I rip my arm away as I stare up at the disgusting man standing over me, fear evident in my eyes as his vomit worthy hand starts caressing my cheek. "It's time for school." Calvin gets up and leaves the room, giving me one question to be answered by the stars. Why did I have to be placed in the same foster home as Calvin?
----------------------------------------------
I jump out of my foster mom's car as she yells out "have a good day at school, Khione," earning a nod from me as I leave the parking lot and speed walk towards the school doors.
Please don't let Calvin see me, please don't let Calvin see me I think as I reach my locker. I put my backpack in and grab my books just as I feel arms wrap around my waist. I immediately stiffen, grabbing my whiteboard and dry erase marker before shutting my locker.
"I personally asked for the two of us to have the same schedule and locker," Calvin's voice creeps through my ears. "We can now be together and talk about our growing family that you hid from me," he murmurs as he places his hand underneath my shirt and on my lower gut. I stay still, looking down at my shoes and wishing for this to end. Stop touching me. It hurts. Let me go. Leave me alone. I still am quiet, as still as stone as his hand is rubbing my gut. I bring up my hood and pull my sleeves to cover my hands before gently moving his arms away from me, his hand leaving my stomach finally. I take a shaky breath, feeling like I can breathe again. "Why? Why did you hide our baby from me?" Calvin growls at me and I shy away from him.
Calvin stops growling, figuring out that I won't answer if I'm scared. I pull the cap off the dry erase marker and with shaking hands I write "Correction: my baby. Not yours. I don't have to tell you anything about it." I walk away as soon as he finishes reading it, wanting this day to end as soon as possible.
Throughout the day I ignore Calvin and his grimy hands touching me, and in some I am able to find a seat where he can't be near me. He really disgusts me, I think to myself. He is my worst fear. When the last bell rings I jump and bolt out of the classroom, reaching my locker and grabbing my backpack. Get out before he sees me, get out before he sees me. Just then someone grabs my wrist, surprising me with burning pain shooting up my arm.
"Woah, where are you going?" Calvin pulls me closer before saying "our foster mom says I have to drive you home." Let go, please let go, let go let go let go! I keep my eyes shut tight before nodding, hoping that's all it takes to get rid of him. Calvin just smiles as if he won, putting his arm on my shoulder as he leans on me. "Great, now we can talk about our baby," he whispers, exaggerating "our". Calvin pulls me out to his truck before letting me in first, probably making sure I don't leave as he turns on the child lock for my door before heading to the driver side. After starting the car and getting the two of us out of there, Calvin starts playing with my hair and I just shy away from him again, leaning as far away from him as possible.
"Awe, come one. I can't be that scary, can I?" Calvin smirks, probably happy he has such an effect on me. "Use that pretty voice of yours and answer me, Khione."
