I couldn't sleep that night. The thought of me going to school was horrible. Mum and Dad were dead. I can't  concentrate.

I heard a crackling sound. I sat up in bed. I smelled the smell. It was smoke.

I thought Sarah, the chief, was cooking. Though that can't be right. Sarah doesn't burn things, she cooks them. I began to worry.

Sarah doesn't cook in night, she cooks in the morning.

I smelled the air again. It was smoke. I wore my slippers. I had to find out what it was. I tiptoed downstairs, the floor creaking a little. I ended up in the kitchen. There was a FIRE!.

I gasped. I looked everywhere. What do I do?,I asked myself. I looked everywhere for the fire alarm. When I turned round, the fire was right behind me.

I screamed a little, running away. I had to tell one of the Sisters. I was still new to the orphanage, so I didn't know which room was which. I looked downstairs. The fire was catching up. The first thing that came into my mind was Hugh. Hugh was my only family,I couldn't let him die.

I ran another flight of stairs. I opened the younger boys' room. I gasped. The fire was so fast,I could see a little smoke on their wall. I couldn't see in the darkness. "Hugh!" I whispered. The wall started to burn.

I took a deep breathe. Downstairs I could hear Sister Faith screaming. ''Hugh!" I shouted. All the boys gasped in shock. ''There is a fire!" I shouted. Alan laughed. ''Look'' A boy gasped. ''Fire!" They all screamed. They all ran out of the room, but they screamed when they realized that the fire caught them. Hugh grabbed hold of me. ''Fiona,I'm scared'' He cried. There was a door in the boys' room. ''Let's go through there'' I pointed. As Hugh and I ran,the boys followed. There was a stair way. ''Where will this take us?" I asked the boys. ''It'll take us to the storage room'' Alan said. ''Damn it'' I said. "But then there's a another door that leads us into the nursery room'' Alan continued.

''OK then,we'll go there'' I ran down the stairs. ''Hugh come on'' I held onto his hand. In the storage room, there was towels, hair conditioner, tooth brushes and clothes. ''Where is the door?" I asked Alan. ''Over there'' He pointed. I opened the door. "This isn't the nursery room'' I said. Alan blushed. ''That is the young girls' room'' A boy said. ''Elsa'' Hugh gasped. In the corner,Elsa was crying and screaming.

''Guys, stay here,I'm going to get Elsa'' I said. The fire was burning real badly. ''Elsa'' I hugged Elsa. She was crying real badly. ''Come on,the boys are waiting'' I ran back to the storage room. I placed Elsa on the floor. ''Where will we go now?" Alan asked. I looked at the girls' room. It wasn't that bad,I guess. ''Follow me'' I said, holding Hugh and Elsa's  hand.

"Stay close guys'' I called. In seconds,we were on the 2nd floor. ''Fiona!" It was Brian. I beckoned him to come over here.''Wow,you're the new Moses'' He said, not laughing. ''Have you seen Winnie,Fiona?" Elsa asked. I gasped. "Brian take the boys outside while I go find Winnie'' I said. Brian nodded.

"Elsa follow Brian''. Elsa shook her head. ''I need to find Winnie'. I sighed. I ran back upstairs to the girls' room. The only thing there was,was fire. ''Winnie!" I called. ''Winnie'' Elsa called. They're was no reply. Elsa went pale. I looked around. "Winnie!" Elsa screamed. ''Elsa Winnie isn't there'' I said. Elsa took a step forward. ''Winnie!" She called again. ''Elsa she is not there!" I shouted at her.

She started crying. I sighed. ''Fiona'' Brian called. I carried Elsa downstairs. ''The boys'' Brian gasped. ''They're gone''. I gasped. ''Where's Hugh!" I shouted. ''I'm here'' Hugh said. I smiled. But then my smile faded away. ''Where did they go?".

''They had some sisters and brothers in the nursery room,so they went there to find them'' Hugh told me. I sighed. ''Let's go get them'' I said, but Brian got hold of my arm. ''Fiona, its too late. They're probably dead'' Brian said. He was right. ''Let's get out of here'' Brian insisted.

Brian led us out of the burning orphanage. When we got out,I realized one thing.

The orphanage wasn't in town. That's why the fire engine didn't came...
