Steve rode the elevator up to his floor; his foot tapping impatiently. He had finally gathered the courage and he wasn't backing out now. He had rehearsed what he was going to say in his mind at least thirty times in the last hour. Today was going to be the day that he proposed to Bucky.

The elevator dinged to announce that he had arrived and he walked in with a huge grin plastered on his face. "I'm home!" he called.

"In the kitchen!" Bucky answered.

There was something sweet smelling in the air and Steve jokingly shook his head as he rounded the corner to the kitchen, "you're making pancakes again?"

"Hey! Don't judge! I can't believe the Soviets kept this work of art away from me. I'm never going to eat anything else ever again.

Steve stifled a laugh, "Buck you'd die. You need protein in your diet, you dork."

"Last time I checked, you weren't a nutrition specialist," he smirked as he booped him on the nose with excess pancake batter.

Steve laughed, and threw his hands up sarcastically, "alright. I'm not gonna stop you."

Bucky grinned and turned his attention to the stove. Steve saw the opportunity and he took it. He grabbed the ring from his pocket and kneeled in front of the fridge. Bucky wouldn't see him until he turned around.

He was humming a quiet tune when he turned around and he immediately froze. All the breath was sucked from his lungs, "Steve..." his face was a combination of shock and confusion.

Steve began his speech, "Bucky I love you. More than words can explain. I loved you when we were kids, and I love you now. When you were gone... I was a mess Buck, and when I saw your face on that bridge I promised myself that I would never let you go again. So I figured the easiest way to do that was to ask you if you would marry me," that had sounded better in his head.

"Steve I- are you sure about this?"

He nodded, "you once told me that you were with me till the end of the line, and I'm holding you to that."

Bucky beamed and kneeled in front of Steve so he could throw his arms around him.

"I'll take that as a yes?"

He laughed into Steve's shoulder, "Yes Steve. Of course. I love you so much."

Steve took a deep breath in and smiled as he hugged Bucky back. After a couple minutes, he slowly pulled away and slid the ring onto Bucky's finger.

Bucky's eyes were brimmed with tears. He had no idea what to say, so he kissed Steve instead. Kissing said more than words anyway. He pulled away softly and Steve grinned, "how about some celebratory pancakes?"

Bucky laughed, "well I do love pancakes."
