Chapter 4~ first lesson troubles

Lexi sat the bucks well, but not well enough, she fell to the side and lost both stirrups, just at the same time star thought it would be great to have a little gallop, so she did and Lexi flew off the side. Star pranced back over with her head naturally curved in, she lifted her legs and pranced around Lexi, if horses could laugh I'd say she was.

Lexi just growled and fixed the saddle before hopping back on, we all just stood there trying not to laugh.

"Lexi! Please try to control your horse! This time is your only warning." Ms Lee hissed. I was slightly unimpressed because I was hoping that she would be kicked out of the academy.

After a few more seconds everyone clicked their horses forward and we all followed each other wide around the arena at a nice working trot.

"Everyone please move into a slow canter" Ms Lee had calmed down but I hadn't.

I haven't cantered on Lucky yet and it was making me nervous, everyone else had already broke into a slow canter but I was still too nervous to click him forward.

"Mayla, please move to canter," Ms Lee ordered with a serious tone.

Oh no, I hated to get in trouble, I squeezed with my heels and clicked lucky forward, he moved into canter and I had to be honest it was the most gentle canter I'd ever experienced! Lucky sure was taking care of me, I leaned down and patted his beautiful dark brown neck. His mane is cut at an even length and he is just so pretty.

We all slow to a walk before turning a small circle and breaking straight into a canter on the other rein.

All was going well until Liv's buckskin mare decided she would bolt down the other end of the arena. Liv held on however and after being yelled at by the coach, she pulled her horse to a halt and dismounted.

"Olivia, please untack, you are not allowed to ride until tomorrow" Ms Lee said harshly.

Well this is unfair! She didn't even fall and she got her horse under control. Maybe Ms Lee favours Lexi.

All this thinking made me slouch, "sit up please Mayla and Maddie!" Ms Lee said. We both looked towards each other and then sat up quickly, this lesson was not going well.

After some more transitions we all got off and began to untack, I took Lucky's gear to the tack room and began brushing his short mane and where the saddle had been.

Maybe I wasn't cut out to be here after all, I felt bad for the two girls who fell or weren't allowed back on, even though Lexi hated my guts for no reason.

I untied lucky and we both walked back to his stall with our heads low, I let out a sigh as I lead him into the stall and took off the halter, "oh lucky, we always have tomorrow." I rubbed his forelock and he walked outside into the small yard for a drink of water. I shut the gate and hung the rope and halter before walking back to my dorm.

Once back at the dorms I heard voices inside so I knocked on the door and surely enough Victoria opened it, "hey Mayla" she giggled as I stepped inside, shutting the door behind me.

"Hey May! We have one hour to dress in everyday clothes, take our riding clothes to the washing room and get to the dining hall," Megan confirmed while walking into the bathroom and locking the door to get changed.

Victoria and I exchanged glances and sat in awkward silence on our beds waiting for the bathroom lock to click.

After Victoria changed it was my turn, I went into the bathroom and changed into a black and white striped shirt that had the word 'shameless' across the front and some (not too short) denim shorts since it was a very hot day.

I sat on my bed brushing my long hair and listening to the other two gossip about the other riders and their horses.

We all got up and slipped on comfortable shoes before taking our riding clothes to the washing room and then walking to the dining hall. It was filled with almost all the riders, Victoria went and sat next to her friends while Megan and I took a seat next to Maddy.

We only had to wait a few minutes for the last 2 riders to join us before digging into all this amazing food, there was pork, chicken and turkey as well as pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches and so much more, I heard some of the riders saying that we get this buffet tonight as a special welcome to the challenge camp.

After dinner we all had ice cream, cakes, jelly ect. It was honestly some of the greatest food I've ever eaten.

After dinner Megan and I walked back to the dorms, showered and changed into pyjamas before brushing our teeth and hopping into bed at 9pm.We needed a good night sleep since tomorrow we have a massive lesson then free time.

-skip forward to 3am-

I woke up to the sound of the door unlocking and quickly woke Megan, we both grabbed pillows and hid on the top bunk, the door slowly creaked open and we both screamed, we couldn't believe our eyes! The lights flashed on and....

Ok sorry lol cliff hanger even though it's fairly obvious what's going to happen, or is it?
