Namjoon had learned that her name was Eunmi, because one day, instead of paying with cash like she always did, she payed with credit, signing her name, Cha Eunmi on the receipt he gave her. He remembered that he had taken a sharpie and written it on his hand, holding his hand in front of him, and examining his fingers, which were now smeared with black ink.
One day, it was 9:29 am, and Namjoon wanted to set his plan to action. Putting the jar on the table and being very careful not to break it, Namjoon hurried back to the cash register just as Eunmi walked in for her caramel latte.
He handed her the cup, and watched out of his peripheral vision as she sat down and saw her name written on the jar, and expression of curiosity obvious on her face as she opened it and took out a paper heart. Looking at the message written on it, she mouthed the words, "Don't worry, you're beautiful."
He saw a small smile tug at the corner of her lips as she continued to look through the jar, reading each and every heart and gently setting each on down on the table when she was done.
Namjoon couldn't help but smile as well.
When she was done reading the hearts, she put the hearts back into the jar before continuing to get her latte. When she finally left, clutching the jar in her hands, it was 10:10 am, and Namjoon was satisfied with the outcomes of his plan.
This went on for two weeks, and Namjoon made a new jar every day. Once, he even went so far as to decorate the jar with melted wax, drawing hearts and stars on it with practiced accuracy. He knew that this was helping her, because one day, she left the café with a huge smile on her face.
One day, Namjoon didn't make her hearts. He simply left a note in the jar.
He watched as she came in and looked at the jar, an expression of curiosity immediately coming onto her face when she saw that there were no hearts in the jar, but a single piece of paper.
As she took out the note and read it, Namjoon's heart began to pound.
Putting down the note, Eunmi looked up at Namjoon, and they shared as smile.
