Chapter Two:

Tick…. Tock… tick…..tock…

The only thing I heard as soon as I had my consciousness. I roam my eyes around to look for Alvis but all I see was darkness; the sound continued tick- tocking as if there was a clock wherever I am lying.

I found myself lying on the ground in an unseen place before. I got up myself and wipe the dirt on my jean and my shirt. The place was very dark, narrow, and cold. But I could hypothesize that I was stuck in an underground tunnel. I am in an underground tunnel. I told myself. It was a long straight and narrow path; and to the edge of this tunnel was light…

A bluish-white light.

How did I get here? Where’s Alvis? I ask my mind but I didn’t bother to answer. I started to follow the light hoping that to the ends of this tunnel is where Alvis is. I started to walk slowly. My body is still weak for I have not eaten for three days now.

The moment my feet touches the ground, it started vibrating and make echoes. I started to hear water dripping for no reason. But I reminded myself that I was in a tunnel so it’s natural to hear those things. The only thing that is bugging me is that how did I get here. The last time I check, we were sleeping in the street after being chased by the cops. The tick-tocking continued, and it is making me annoyed.

Every step sent shivers to my system as I’m getting close to the light…The same dreadful feeling I felt when Alvis gone missing. Who knew what grim horror lies behind that light. I continued to walk into the light….

I’m getting close…..

I’m getting closer…..

Closer…..

Closer…..

As I get there, the tunnel was gone; instead I was transported in a place. A place I’ve missed for almost five years. Right. This is our house. I was facing the vintage clock in our house. My guess is, it’s the one making tick-tocking noise. I try to roam around trying to savor the moment of being at home again. Ever since that day happened everything once we possess were taken away from us. While I was roaming around the living room, I notice a full length misty mirror. I went closer to wipe the mist in the mirror.

“Whoa!”

What is happening? Am I hallucinating things? Is this a dream? I touch my face and tried as desperate as I could to wake up my senses and at the same time examining my healthy face five years ago. Compared to the current me; this look is better. I snap into reality that I was stuck in my dream. I already pinch myself and all but my reflection never changed. What I could see from the reflection was my old self five years ago. What is happening?  I stood there for a minute totally shocked.

I walked away until I arrived at my favorite place in the living room.

 “Honey, hand me the remote”

I turned my back in shock as I heard that voice. That voice…  I saw my mom. She walked by and passed through me. My heart started to palpitate in another shock. What is happening? She just walked by passed me! This is just a dream. I reminded myself. It felt odd even though I knew this was all in a dream. How would anybody feel if someone just walked by and passed through them? Wouldn’t it be strange? I don’t know what was happening but she just passed through me! I fix my gaze to her as she kept on moving from one place to another. She went to the couch and toy with my brother Alvis to get the remote he was holding. Alvis looked the same age as he was five years ago. She was happy playing with my baby brother.

“Let’s watch the news” mom said to Alvis. I have a feeling I knew what was about to come. The TV was on. I averted my gaze and listen closely to the news, even if I had an idea what was going to happen but I listen anyway.
