They entered the door, and closed it behind them. Mrs. Terence, and Mr. Warden who had both waited on the group right beside the door on the inside were now making sure the students were alright as they came inside. Gina was the last one through the door, and turned around quickly to close the door.

It was a cover up so that she could hide her injury.

“Okay, me and Mr. Warden have to catch up with the others, so come on!” Mrs. Terence stated as she began to run further into the tunnels, everyone followed closely behind.

Gina was starting to have trouble breathing as she followed the group at the rear with Natalie right beside her. Natalie was carrying a long metal ruler that she had gotten from a surviving teacher. As everyone began to tire out, Gina glanced back…

Natalie caught her friend looking back.

“Everyone keep running! We only have about ten more seconds before the zombies get through that door!” Natalie yelled out as she calculated how much time they had before the zombies got through the door.

“But what if there’s more zombies at the other side of the tunnel?!” Jade asked alarmed from were she led the front.

            Everyone seemed frightened.

Suddenly Gina stopped, and everyone else followed suit. Looking at her, Natalie felt a ripple of horror grip her as she saw fresh blood drip from a gaping wound Gina had on her stomach. Glancing at the others, Natalie saw a mixture of horror, pity, sadness, and rage.

‘Don’t worry! Just go!’ Gina ordered even as she felt a twinge of terror go through her, as she began to taste blood in her mouth.

“You should leave, I’ll hold the zombies back as best as I can.” Gina told them, “Now just go…and don’t look back.”

Everyone stared at her before they each nodded in reluctant agreement, then they turned around to leave.

Natalie stopped, and balled up her hands at her sides.

“No, we can’t!” Natalie stated feeling angry with herself for almost leaving her best friend behind, “You might not even turn into a zombie… And to leave you behind is inhuman!”

“Natalie is right.” Al said agreeing.

“I guess we really can’t leave her behind… What would the gang be like without its best thinker?” Jade asked with a small smile.

“We’d be lost without her.” Jaron said with a smile.

“So lets all go.” Les said placing an arm around Gina as he propelled her forward.

“Thanks guys…” Gina said with tears welling up in her eyes, she wiped them away quickly.

“Lets go!” Gina exclaimed as she started running again.

This time everyone ran right along side her again with smiles on their faces, even as the damaged door behind them began to creak slowly open...

            A gnarl hand crept through.
