You were met with excruciating pain when you woke. You suffered a number of bruises and scrapes, but worst of all it seemed as if your wings had broke your fall. You couldn't even dare to move them as you sat up. You knew all too well that they had been shattered pretty badly.
You had landed in a grassy patch, which was odd regarding how deep beneath the surface it had grown. Among the grass, young marigolds dotted the patch. They were a beautiful gold, and something about them felt comforting. You plucked a few and pocketed them before struggling to your feet. Getting out was your number one goal, and all you knew is you definitely wouldn't be climbing back out of where you came. Your eyes skimmed the dark cavern that you sat in, landing on a small corridor that led to a rather large door. Bingo.
You started toward the corridor, doing your best not to let your wings drag against the floor as you moved. All you could do was hope for a quick way out so you could tend to your wounds. Sadly, another pitch black cavern with a patch of grass in the front was what you got instead. An unknown source of light shone down on the grass, and there in the center sat a marigold. It stood taller than the others that you had tucked into your pocket. And quite unlike the rest, it was staring right back at you. The flower(?) sported two beady black eyes that scanned you as you stood in shock. It looked just as shocked as you were, watching you as you moved closer. Now you stood only a few feet away from it, shocked expression never falling. As you grew closer, the shock was wiped almost immediately off of its face. It sported the cheesiest grin you had ever seen now, which made you feel rather uneasy.
"Howdy!" It spoke. It was taking you every bit of self control you had not to stomp it into the ground. "You seem to be a bit confused. You're new to the underground, aren't you?" It spoke in a sickly sweet tone. Reading up on human history would have done you so much good right now. You nodded, unsure of what to say.
"That's alright! I can help." It chittered, leaves seeming to wave contently. Something in you screamed not to trust it, but you felt so defenseless here. You nodded, shoulders slumping. "Thank you so much—" you murmured as you moved closer to the other. There was a glint in the monster's eyes as you grew closer. One that made the voice at the back of your head grow louder and louder. You were nearly a foot from the flower when out of the darkness, something struck it.
The floral monster had disappeared almost as soon as it was hit, and you were left gawking at the patch of grass that had been set on fire. You looked up at the attacker, and there in the shadow of the doorway emerged another monster.
