Chapter 7 Road Trip
Imagine being couped up in a car with River, Marcus and Declan for 9 hours. Imagine going without food for those hours too. Imagine listening to Declan's snores for 7 of those hours. Imagine switching places with me and undergoing these past 8 hours like I had; the only girl, no food, minimal bathroom breaks. Imagine.
Life surely could be better.
The positives of this road trip?
Well, other than the fact I do get to cuddle with my extremely lovable and handsome mate, in the end I will finally discover who I am. I won't just think of myself as the girl whose been locked up for 17 years.
I'll be the girl with an actual life, a reason for living the past 17 years in solitude.
I'll be me.
To be honest I already feel different. I feel like I understand the world better.
When I stepped outside for the first time, I cried.
I no longer feel like the little sheltered girl whose best friends are her brothers and sisters. As I stepped on to the dark green grass, I felt free. Beneath my toes the grass felt nothing like the grass that sits inside my special "outdoors" hang out. It was squishy and full. And when I moved on to the sidewalk I felt powerful. And oh boy, when I sat in the car, I felt normal. I feel like I finally fit in with everyone.
Although it was 3 o'clock in the morning when we left, I knew immediately that I loved nature.
"Are we almost there yet?" I asked, brushing River's hair, absentmindedly.
"Just about an hour more kiddo. Take a nap and we'll be there in no time" , Marcus smiled, looking at me in the rearview mirror.
I laughed silently and mumbled under my breathe
I turned to River and whispered, "I can think of better ideas then sleeping" and leaned in to kiss him.
"Kenadee! There will be none of that! Take a nap" Declan snapped.
"Oh, you mean now that you've finally stopped snoring, I can take a nap?" I replied, annoyed.
This heat was getting to me. I want nothing more to just have some ice cream and kiss my mate.
"I do no-ot snore!" He defended himself. But I could tell he wasn't too sure of himself. Something about the crack in his voice gave it away.
"Guys please. Can you just stop the bickering? We need to discuss what we're going to ask Shane" Marcus said, authority clear in his voice.
"Marcus, just relax, when the time comes we'll know what to ask. I've been out of the house for what? Twelve hours? And I haven't even gotten to enjoy it"
"Ken, I know you're excited, but we've got important matters to attend to that involve your life"
I rolled my eyes, glaring out the window.
River kissed my cheek, "Don't worry, baby, soon we'll be able to do anything you want. Lets just worry about figuring out this whole thing with Shane. We've only got about 4 more hours"
I nodded my head, kissing his lips softly.
River is honestly such a sweetheart. Sure, he may be 6 and a half feet tall, but that doesn't mean he's a big, angry giant.
"Can we at least take a bre- Oh my goodness! What is that?!" My jaw dropped as I starred at the place in awe.
"What's what? The swin-"
"The swing set! I've only seen pictures of it before! Stop the car Marcus! Please!" I begged Marcus to stop.
"No Kenadee. Sit back and stop-"
"Marcus" River demanded, his voice quiet and demanding, "Stop the car"
"Alpha, she's being childish. It's a swing set!" Marcus cowered away. I immediately felt bad for asking Marcus to stop.
"I'm sorry Marcus. I shouldn't have asked. I was selfish to do so" I looked down in my lap.
River growled, "Stop the damn car, Marcus, or you will be punished"
Without another word Marcus pulled over to the side of the road where the quiet park was. It was beautiful! It had flowers all over the place and a big water fountain.
I always dreamed of coming to the park. I've dreamed of breathing in the fresh air and swinging on the swings. The jungle gym looks kind of exciting too!
"Marcus, get out" River ordered, getting out of the car. I moved to unbuckle my own seat and follow, but River put his hand up, "Stay put, princess"
"Okay" I sighed.
River had an angry look on his face as he talked to Marcus. I couldn't hear the words he was saying but I knew he meant buisness.
Marcus nodded at what River was saying and sat on a nearby park bench. River opened my door for me and smiled, "M'lady". Hisawdul accent made me giggle.
I stepped foot on the squishy grass, letting my bare toes sink in. "Thank you, kind sir" I said kissing his cheek.
"It's no problem, darling. Now...", he paused, "I'll race you to the swing set!"
"River! You jerk!" I yelled as he took off to the swing set, "That's not fair!"
I took off after him, but was obviously beaten.
I giggled as River pulled me towards his swing and sat me on his lap, "Ready Princess?"
Looking up at his freckled face, I smiled, "Yes please"
We took off and swung through the air, me laughing the whole time.
"This. Is Awesome!"
River chuckled at my childishness.
I felt so free as we swung. It was impossible to feel down when we were so high in the air. Even Marcus and Declan were smiling at us and, surprisingly, decided to join us.

Before I knew it we were back on the road, heading for Shane.
As we veered closer, my nerves finally kicked in.
My life, past, present and future, depends on Shane. What he tells us will change my life.
