So," Maya begins, "it says here: 'to communicate with the spirit world you must free your mind of all preconceptions, drop all inhibitions, and generally give yourself over entirely to the will of others, sublimating your every desire to the whims of the Spirit-master.'"

Cedar and I nod and take a seat. Maya simply stands near me, but she's still a few feet away from the table with the Ouija board on it. Cedar, who is sitting directly across from me, asks, "Maddie, do you wanna be the medium?"

"Um, yeah! Definitely!" I smile as we put our hands on the planchette. "Maya... do you think you could join us please?" She reluctantly sits down and puts her hand on the planchette.

23:00

I take a deep breath and begin to speak. "Okay. Um... Anyone there...? Will you reveal yourself to us... if you're there...?"

The planchette begins to move. Cedar stares at me wide eyed. "Did you do that...?"

"I-I swear it's just moving." I stutter.

"It's moving again!" interjects Maya with wide eyes.

"H..." I read out loud.

Cedar interjects, "What's it spelling?"

"Hold on."

"Are you moving it?" Maya asks once it moves to an E. I shake my head and stare lifelessly at the planchette.

"No." Cedar mutters. "Holy shit..." The planchette is now on L.

"...Help." I force out of my mouth.

"How are we supposed to help?" Cedar questions, staring wide-eyed at me.

"We need to know who it is if we're supposed to know." interrupts Maya.

"Um," I hesitate, "who are you?"

"It's moving again." Maya narrates. Cedar and I nod.

Cedar's eyes dart to my face once again. "What's it spelling?"

"War...?" The planchette picks up its pace and quickly finishes the word. "...Warning."

Maya takes a deep breath. "I think... we... really need to find out who's trying communicating with us."

I ignore her, however. "What are you warning us about?" Goosebumps form on my skin as the planchette moves from one letter to the next. "S-- I-- S-- T-- E-- R." Maya and I practically stare right into Cedar. "Sister." I state.

Cedar frowns with teeth shown as his eyes grow even wider. "Who... Whose sister?"

"Ce-Cedar... it has to be..."

"Yeah? Okay. Well... which sister is it then?"

I glance down at the planchette, then at Maya, then at Cedar. "Who are we speaking to...? Laurel...? Is that you?" The planchette moves to yes. We're all shaking now.

"This is messed up..." Maya mumbles.

I stare into Cedar's eyes. "Cedar, are you-"

"I'm fine."

"Are you sure, because we can stop-"

"No."

"Cedar," says Maya, "it's cool-"

"I want to hear what it says." he glares at her.

I take a few deep breaths. "Okay..." I'm about to ask Laurel about what happened, but I stop and stare doe-eyed at the planchette. "Laurel... I-I'm so sorry! We're so sorry!" I state.
