(A/N) I've never done this before, can you tell?? The art used is NOT mine, just so we're clear. I'm a lazy shit who used the internet. I'll update slowly, and probably only if I feel it's worth continuing. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

(Shiro x Female Reader-Romantic)

You checked your device again. The odd thing had been given to you by the Black Paladin the first time you'd met. You had been trying to contact him recently, but he hadn't been answering.

You: Shiro? I know it's been a few quintants and I've been contacting you basically everyday, and I'm probably just annoying you, and I'm sorry, but I'm really worried. Please respond soon. (Sent 17:92)

You sighed as you looked at the screen yet again for what felt like the thousandth time. 'You probably are just annoying him, you stupid little fool,' whispered the traitorous voice of your anxiety. You silently told it to buzz off.

You thought back to the first time you and Shiro met. The Paladins had just used Voltron to save your planet, (P/N), from the Galra who had been threatening it. The Paladins and the Alteans had come down to talk with your leader about something governmental. At the time, you barely spoke any Altean, but it was more than almost anyone in your colony, even the scholars. So, your king Whitallor, after hearing of your knowledge, plucked you from your parents' house to be his translator.

Your parents, Lord and Lady (L/N), were joyous for you to be hand picked by the king. They practically shoved you out the door at the news. You, on the other hand, were less than thrilled. You were close to positive the Paladins would be stuck up brats who thought they had the right to anything because they saved your world and others. You, (Y/N) (L/N), were much too proud to be at the beckoning of just anther group of haughty Lords.

You sneered at the thought even as you walked down the hallway of the palace that led to the throne room. The guards at the double door barely spared you a look as they stepped aside to let you in.

You took in your surroundings quickly, not wanting to linger. There was an Altean woman who wore a tiara-like head band and an Altean man with orange hair and an odd moustache who were smiling at the king awkwardly, as if trying to get their point across without words. Then there were the Paladins behind them, standing close together like they didn't want to be there.

They were nothing like you'd expected. You'd heard rumours they were humans, like a good 37% of (P/N)'s population- yourself included- but you hadn't believed it. The shortest one in the green suit noticed you first and turned to face you fully. You couldn't tell if they were a male or female, their owlish eyes widening behind their large glasses when they saw you. They smiled and asked, "Are you our translator?"

You nodded as the other Paladins' attention was also drawn on you. There was a darkly tanned and tall one in blue; a pale one with odd hair in red; another tanned one with an orange-yellow headband in yellow; and then there was the Black Paladin. He automatically took your breath away. He looked at you, slightly stunned as well, it seemed.

"Ah, (Y/N), there you are," King Whitallor said in your people's language, also drawing the Alteans' attention to you. "Please tell the Paladins and the Princess of our thanks."

You turned to the aliens and said, "The King thanks you."

"Please tell your king that it was our pleasure to save you from the dreaded Galra, and that we ask no payment in return other than your loyalty to our cause," the woman, who you assumed was the princess, said.

You only got about 79% of the words, but you got the idea and translated for them. "They say it was an honour to help us and only ask for our loyalty to their cause."

The king nodded and said in your language, "We pledge ourselves and our resources to Voltron."

You turned back to the princess and said in their language, "We support Voltron and are happy to give needed resources. If you need them." You knew that you were being a bit informal, but you only knew simple words in Altean.

"Brilliant! Please ask your king if he would mind allowing Voltron and our a castle to land and stay for the next two quintants and recharge," said the princess.

You barely understood half of what she had said, so you had to pause and really think before you could work out what she was trying to say. "They wish to have two quintants to land their ships here and get ready to fight again. They also thank you for your support."

The king looked to the Alteans and nodded, not needing you to translate his response this time.

"Thank you oh so much, Your Majesty," The princess said.

"They thank you again," you told the king.

King Whitallor smiled at the Alteans and the Paladins as they smiled back. "Please take (Y/N) to be your personal translator for your time here, and as a sign of your newfound allegiance, please give us the pleasure of hosting a feast in your honour," said your king.

You translated as best you could, saying, "The king would like me to be your translator and also wishes to invite you to dinner."

The Blue Paladin and the Yellow Paladin nodded eagerly as the Princess humbly accepted. Guards came to escort them to their rooms and you glumly followed, still thinking of them badly.

The guards and their group, including you, were almost to the stairs when the Blue Paladin turned to you and said, "Hey girl, on a scale of one to ten, you're a nine and I'm the one you need."

His smirk and wink disgusted you. Thankfully, the Red Paladin smacked him upside the head and said, "Sorry about Lance, Miss. He's an utter idiot."

You managed a small smile and said, "It's fine, really."

The Blue Paladin, Lance, glared at the Red Paladin and continued to argue as the Black Paladin turned and introduced himself and the others. "Hello, by the way. I'm Shiro, you've already talked to Lance, Keith," he nodded at the Red Paladin, " and Princess Allura," Shiro nodded to the woman who smiled at your glance.

"I'm Hunk," the Yellow Paladin, Hunk, smiled and reached his hand out. You looked at it quizzicality, wondering if it was an odd Paladin custom. "Oh, you shake it, see?" He grabbed your hand and shook it up and down gently. "It's a way of greeting people on Earth."

"Oh, thank you Paladin Hunk," you said politely as the group climbed the stairs. They were nothing as you had expected, they seemed awfully kind.

"It's just Hunk, Miss. Well, it's really Tsuyoshi 'Hunk' Garett," he said, appearing to be feeling awkward at the honouring title. He opened his mouth, probably to ramble.

"And I'm Pidge," the small Green Paladin interrupted. "Would you happen to know how this gadget works?" They held up a long metal rod with spikes at the end.

"G-gadj... et? Gadget?" you asked, not understanding the term.

"I don't think she understands, the term," the orange haired man leaned over and whispered loudly to Shiro. He then turned to me and said loudly and slowly, "A gadget is a tool! Tooooool!"

"Coran! Don't be rude," Princess Allura hissed. "She knows Altean."

"I only know very little, actually," you said softly.

"We can teach you!" Shiro blurted. It was the first time he had spoken in a few minutes and he looked around for support in his decision, but no one seemed to be paying attention to you two. "Or I guess I can teach you... if that's okay with you, of course?"

You smiled gratefully at him, faintly amused that he turned the statement into a question. "That would be... b- br- brillie... ant. Brilliant?" you paused, looking down, smile fading. "Did I use that right?" You looked back up at him, seeing him smile encouragingly made you smile again, shyly.

"Seems like you're learning quickly," Shiro said kindly.

(A/N) So the original paragraph, where Shiro is missing takes place between season 1 and 2 when the Paladins are scattered. Not between 2 and 3 despite what most would probably assume. I hope you enjoyed this, and again I may take a while to update, school is starting back soon. 😭
