" I promise to love you," he said.
"No, don't." she replied.
"I promise to never leave you. I promise to kiss your scars." he said.
"No, stop." she said
"I promise to never hurt you; never will you shed a tear because of me." he said.
"No, don't. Just please stop." she said.
"Fine," he said as he left.
And as she stood and watched him hold another's hand, she sighed and quietly said:
"Many have promised me of futures full of love, but all broken by a single scorn. I told you to never promise me these 'cause I knew eventually you'd leave. Actions always speak louder than words."
And with one last sigh, she turned her book to its next chapter.
