I wake up with his name on my lips. Charlie. It's all I can do to not say it. I see Sam sitting at the small table on his laptop doing research, and I'm not sure where Dean is. I sit up, and Sam sees me. "Good morning." He says.
"Good morning," I say. I yawn. "Where's Dean?"
"He's getting breakfast." He pushes his laptop away from him, and stands up. He walks over to me, and I know something's wrong. I swing my legs over the side of the bed. "Lee..."
"What is it, Sam?" I ask.
He sighs. "Dean went over to Charlie's room today, and noticed his car was gone. And there was a note. For you. I'm sorry, Leann. He's gone."
I know I have to act surprised, so I do. I open my mouth like I'm going to say something, and then tears come. But they aren't fake. They are the tears that didn't really come last night, when I let him run off. "Can I see the note?"
Sam walks over to the table, and grabs a small piece of paper. He hands it to me, and I read it. In small black print, it says:
Lee,
I'm sorry I had to go. You know I didn't want to leave you, but I had to in order to keep you safe. And you seem to have things figured out. Things are really starting to lookup for you. I'm happy for you. Always remember: I love you.
-Charlie
I let more tears slide down my cheeks, because I know he actually wrote this, and it was before I told him to leave. Before Dean almost killed him.
"I'm sorry Lee." Sam says again.
"It's ok. Maybe we weren't supposed to be together. At least now I know he's alive." I say. I sniffle, and grab a kleenex from the box on the night stand. I take a deep breath, and force the tears to stop. I stand up and go to the bathroom, and splash my face with water. I take a towel and dry it off. When I walk back out, I see Sam sitting at the table again.
"Bobby called this morning. Said some other hunters were in town and took care of the demons."
"Ok." I say, and I realize that Dean told him about Charlie.
Just then, Dean walks through the door, carrying bags of food from the diner, and three coffees. "Hey, Sleeping Beauty. You hungry?"
I nod. "And thirsty." I smile. He hands me a coffee and a banana nut muffin. I go to sit at the table with Sam and Dean joins us. "You heard about the other hunters?" I ask him.
He nods. "Yeah." He says through a mouthful of food.
"Guess we've got the day off."
"Guess so." Dean says.
"God, I can't even remember what I used to do on my days off. It seems like they never come anymore." I say. "What are we supposed to do?"
"We could go see a movie." Dean suggests.
I give him a look. "No."
"Go to a casino?"
I scoff. "No."
"Go to a bar?"
"Maybe tonight." I say.
"We can find another job." Sam says.
"Now there's an idea." I say. "Did you find something?"
Sam looks at me. "Yeah." He turns the laptop to me. "A girl was murdered. The next day, a man was murdered. The next day, a girl was murdered. And so on."
"When did it start?"
"Two weeks ago. One everyday."
"So, fourteen people dead. Where?" I ask.
