Chapter 6: It Was Like Slow Motion
*Taylor's POV*
It was now the second day on the bus and, even though she had to sleep in my bed with me, Emmalyn woke up this morning her usual self. I must admit, it felt like the world was lifted off my shoulders. I don't know what I would do if my mom would have to take Em back to Tennessee, when I really just want to spend more and more time with her.Now we were just walking around a tiny town by the name of Beaverville with the cutest shops. The bus was filling up with gas and, as much as I love the buses, it was nice to be able to walk around more than a couple feet. Plus, I think it was just what Em needed to shake off her jitters as she was now messing around with Caitlin and Amos and Grant, causing all kinds of trouble.
"Grant, please put down my sister before you both fall and break your arms!" I scolded Grant as he ran by with Emmalyn on his back in a piggyback ride. Everything just seemed so nice and calming. It was almost too good to be true. But hey, I'm not complaining.
"Hey, let's go in here!" Caitlin said, pointing to a little gift shop. As soon as we walked in, Em saw glow in the dark stars that you put onto your ceiling, and absolutely would not leave the store without them. So we bought them, promising to put them up on the top of her bunk so that she could always see the stars, no matter where we were. I must admit, I thought it was a great idea and make her less homesick later.
Right now we were stopping to eat lunch at a tiny café. It seemed like the kind of place you'd find in a movie; colorful with local art all around the walls. If I would've known about this place, I definitely would've shot the Begin Again music video here. It's exactly what I had pictured! I was sipping some coffee while Emmalyn was eating a small turkey sandwich. It looked like she loved the beautiful place just as much as I did.
"Taylor, when we get to the big place and all the people come are you gonna sing?" Emmalyn asked excitedly, a sparkle in her ice-blue eyes. She had already been to plenty of the show rehearsals and watched us put it together over the past few weeks, but I didn't sing so I wouldn't strain my voice. Instead we played the recorded song over the speakers and everyone just danced and moved around to that instead.
"Yeah, I am! And you're gonna sit in the crowd with Mom and then I'm gonna come by you and you'll come up on stage with me. How about that?"
"Yay!" Emmalyn jumped around in her chair while clapping her hands. I laughed as she continued with a little dance until I checked the time. We had about 10 minutes to get back to the buses.
"C'mon guys, time to go back go the bus!" I cheered sarcastically. Everyone groaned in response (except for Emmalyn of course; as long as she was with us she was happy), as we paid the bill and left the beautiful shop. But I did remember to take plenty of pictures and even stuffed a business card in my wallet in case singing didn't work out for me (kidding, kidding).
Since it was near 11 am on a Thursday, it was the middle of the work day in this small town; the streets were empty. So I wasn't surprised when Amos picked up Em and lifted her onto his back and began running straight ahead to the buses, Caitlin and Grant not far behind him. Me and Paul gave each other a 'why not?' look before we both started running behind them. Yelling, laughing, just running.
The wind flowed through my hair, pushing it back and making me feel like a little kid again. Running around my yard, Austin chasing after me, or running around the Christmas trees on the farm where I grew up.
When we got back to the huge parking lot where people were running around trying to get back on schedule, that little kid feeling was nothing more than a memory. And all of our messy, crazy hair-do's and laughs were drowned out by the sounds of people yelling and talking and planning. But "that's show-biz" as Ryan would say (HSM reference *bam*). We were all rushed back onto our buses where we would have to drive another long, boring day. Yipee.
