"Will you come with me?" He asked gently. His eyes glint with a pleading.

I opened my mouth to say no but it came out as, "Yes."

He gave me a smile that melted my insides and my knees wobbled.

What did I just do?

I shook my head no but I end up shaking it saying yes. I was out of my mind. That was the only explanation. I found him move to grab one of my hand. He lifted me onto his back and soon we were flying again through the woods. I hid my face in the crook of his neck as the wind blew past me.

Silently, I thought about what he just told me. He said I was his. He said it twice already--once when we met everyone and again just a moment ago. With all the werewolves' books I read, they are all possessive of what is theirs. They are most possessive of their mates.

But...

I can't be his mate.

I frowned slightly and then huffed in frustration. Invictus turned towards me slightly. "What is on your mind?"

"Invictus, I need to know the truth. You have to tell me. I am getting so confused and I need you to give me some kind of sense with all this." I started. When he didn't reply I assumed he had agreed. So I continued. "Am I your mate?"

I saw the apple in his throat bobbed up and down as he swallowed. I waited for more than a minute before he finally spoke.

"You are."

I stopped breathing for a moment before I started hyperventilating. He slowed down his pace before coming to a full stop. I pulled away from his body immediately. I have a mate and it was with a lycan—not just any lycan--the lycan behind me that was stalking me as I was trying to run away from him.

"Don't." I wheezed out.

"Breathe for me." He commanded his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at me. He was close to me but stayed a distance to give me room. However, his eyes never left my face. He watched me carefully.

I moved to place my hands on the tree. Max, Ron, Caden and Marc stopped to surround us. I wheezed and my eyes watered. I couldn't breathe.

"Damn it, Deidre! Breathe!" He growled out in panic. I threw him what I thought was a threatening glare but everything was starting to blur around me. In a flash he was next to me. He grasped my chin under his fingers and blew lightly into my face. "Breathe for me, little moon."

I closed my eyes tightly and I slowly inhaled before exhaling slowly. I did it again. My lungs thanked me for the fresh air. My throat opened up. I opened up my eyes to see him looking at me with concern on his face.

"Are you okay now?" He asked.

"I-I'm okay." I whispered back.

"You were freaking out bad." Caden mentioned from behind Invictus. I wiped away my tears that leaked and stood up.

"Yeah, well, you would too if you received the information that I received." I mumbled. Invictus stood up next to me. He turned towards the rest and something was spoken between them because they all nodded and sped away. We were alone now.

"Why did you panic?" He asked as he looked down at me. His close presence was making it harder for me to think.

"I didn't panic." I stuttered.

He raised an eyebrow. "You panicked, little moon."

I sighed before placing a hand over my forehead. I began pacing in front of him.

"I don't think I can do this, Invictus. This is not what I signed up for. I want my life where I lived on the outskirts with my little chicken family. Oh god, my little chicken family! I can't do this, Invictus. This werewolves, lycans, and vampires can't be true. I can't be-" I started.

"Stop. It doesn't matter what you are going to say, it is happening. I am a lycan. We are real. You can't go back there. You will get hurt. Do you understand every second you and I stand here arguing and debating you are in danger?" He growled out.

"Fine! You are real. I am in danger but how can I be your mate? Do you even want me as your mate?" I asked as I turned to look at him, throwing my hands up in the air. When I saw the look on his face, hurt flashed through me. He did not want me. I dropped my hands. The pain in my chest twisted unbearably.

Why was I having this reaction? Was it because I was his mate?

I wanted to cry but instead I squared my shoulders and puffed my chest. If he doesn't want me, I don't want him too. Hell, it was him who needed me. I was fine just without him.

"Little moon." He started.

"No." I gritted through my teeth. "Don't 'little moon' me."

He looked stunned for a moment. I put my hand up in the air to stop him from saying anything because I wasn't finished.

"It's fine. It is unfortunate that we are mates and that you have me, a human, as your mate. You don't have to worry that you are hurting me or that this will impact me in any way. If you insist on me leaving with you, I would go. We do not have to mention about being mates again." I replied coolly as I moved closer to him. "I am ready to go."

He hesitated for a moment before moving to lift me onto his back. The warmth of him radiating to me, keeping me warm and I tightened my arms and legs around him. My reaction to him was unexplainable to me. The only conclusion I could come up with was that it involved with the bond I now have with him.

I was mated to a lycan who didn't want me. Just saying that felt like someone carving into my chest. We didn't talk all the way to the rest of the group. Everyone was waiting on a plane. When we neared them, Invictus moved me off his shoulder. I moved to stand next to the rest of the group.

"Are we leaving by plane then?" I asked.

"Yes, our home is in Russia." Ron replied for the first time. He looked happy. In fact, everyone looked happy and excited.

"We are going home, boys." Marc said grinning.

Soon, everyone was ushered into the plane and we were lifting up into the air. I sat next to Invictus and the next to the window. I inched closer to the window. I don't know why but I didn't want to be close to him. I was finding ways to stay away from him. I think, it was a natural rejection instinct. I was still hurting.

I turned to look outside the window. I can feel Invictus's eyes burning to the side of my face but I refused to look at him. Max came back from the back carrying a few snacks. He tossed them at us and I opened a bag of chip to eat while I looked at the clouds.

After finishing my chips, I listened to everyone talk and laugh about the old days when they were back at home. I can tell they were all excited to go back. I sighed in response as I missed my home. I wondered multiple times if this was the right decision, going away with lycans but I knew what I saw wasn't a dream. I couldn't go back. My life has completely changed and I just have to keep moving with it.

Soon, my eyes grew heavy and I allowed sleep to take over my body. I didn't wake up until I was gently shook by Invictus. I rubbed my eyes from any sleep before glancing around. The plane had stopped. I looked outside and saw that we were in a grassy opening and it was night.

"Are you ready?" He asked.

"Ready for what?" I asked.

He didn't answer, only took me by the hand and walked me down the small aisle of the plane until we reached the entrance. He looked at me one last time before leading me down the steps. When I got out I was surprised to see a long line of uniform soldiers in front of us. I frowned and looked back up at Invictus.

Caden walked up to me and tossed an arm around my shoulders as he leaned into whisper.

"Welcome to Russia, Deidre."

I turned slightly to look at Caden, "Why are there soldiers out here?"

"You don't know?" He asked and when he saw the blank look on my face, a slow grin showed up on his face. "Invictus is the Lycan Prince."
