yes you read that title correctly, I am the mad hatter's wife! our wedding was in magic kingdom on September 3rd 2016
let me explain:
the day before we went to magic kingdom my family and I decided to spend the day in Disney springs (formerly downtown Disney for those of you who haven't been recently) while we were there we went to the new hat shop called "chapel hats" where I bought a huge hat with tons of neon coloured ruffles. it was almost $60 but totally worth it! it reminded me a lot of the hats the citizens of main street tend to wear in magic kingdom so I wore it to the park the next day to try to get a photo with them (I did end up getting a photo with two of them and we had a great conversation about Canada, I'll cover that in another chapter) meanwhile my cousin had made it his mission to get a photo with every possible Disney character in the park which eventually lead us to the mad hatter and Alice. when it was my turn for photos the mad hatter came over and took my hand, leading me to Alice and before I had the chance to say hello to her he announced to her and the other people waiting their turn for photos "this is my wife!" to which the following conversation ensued:
me: wait what?
alice: your wife!? when was the wedding? why wasn't I invited?
mad hatter: it was a shotgun wedding
alice: I thought you said a short girl wedding and I was going to say how incredibly rude that was! I cant believe you didn't invite me
mad hatter: well! it was as quick as a sip of tea don't you agree?
me: ah yes just as quick!
alice: well we cant have that! I have a simply lovely idea, you two take some wedding photos here and I'll be right back!
she then ran to the nearest cafe while we took a few pictures and came back with three packets of sugar
alice: we can use these as a bouquet and I can be your flower girl! come walk behind me
and so we did. the mad hatter linked arms with me and started loudly singing the wedding march as we followed Alice around while she threw the sugar packets into the air. after we paraded around the spinning teacups ride we returned to the photo spot and the mad hatter continued to go on about how marvelous my hat was and Alice cooed about how wonderful a couple we made and collected the sugar packets to give to me "as a souvenir of your special day, because you only get one! its not like your unbirthday" then we said our goodbyes and continued on with our park adventures. to this day I still have that sugar packet "bouquet" and my only regret was not filming our wedding march I would have loved to see my face during the whole thing because when I wasn't laughing my head off I was trying (probably terribly) to play along. I can't wait to go back and talk to them again, I think I'd just about cry if it ended up being the same people.
now for anyone who believes that Disney isn't the happiest place on earth or that it doesn't make dreams come true I hope that was a little bit of proof to prove you wrong. how many people can say they're married to a Disney character? let me tell you that was definitely a dream come true!
