(Y/n)'s P.O.V.
My phone rang loudly at my side, I picked up my phone and swipe up on the green 'answer call' button.
"Yello?" I spoke into the microphone.
"Hey, you on your way?" Aph's voice came through the speaker.
"Yes ma'am, 'bout five or so out." I smiled as I spoke, looking to my dad while he drove, he nodded in agreement.
"Okay, the guys and I will see you when you get here!" She had excitement riddling her voice.
"Okay, see ya soon!" I hung up the phone and sighed a sense of nervousness and excitement flowing through my veins.
"You nervous?" My dad glanced over at me, a small laugh escaped.
"Yeah, you could say that." I nodded, fidgeting with my septum ring.
"You got this. You can always call me or Tim to help you out." My dad keeping his gaze on the road.
"I know dad, but I'm ready for this. Trust me I will call you if someone breaks my heart or I need a good recipe to make, and I'll call Tim when my plumbing needs fixing." I laughed, "I'll call the both of you when I need a couch moved." I added, my dad rolled his eyes.
"I know you know but I have to tell you." My dad had a solemn smile, sad that I'm finally moving out but proud of me for making it in the world. We turned into my new neighborhood, my new house on the left towards the middle of the road. "Look at that, we have arrived."
My house is a beautiful Salmon color with dark brown roof, a two story, two bed two bath. My adrenaline kicked in again.
"You ready kiddo?" My dad put his truck in park. I nodded, finishing my text to Aph.
"Don't think I have a choice, I did already put a down payment on it." I joked, making my dad roll his eyes as we stepped out.
"(Y/n)!!" Aph's voice cutting through the air with her running footsteps, she threw her arms around me in a hug. "I've missed you so much!" She squealed.
"I've missed you too!" I hugged her back. I heard more footsteps approaching.
"Hey!" Lawrence greeted, Garroth and presumably Arron gathered behind him.
"Hey losers!" I greeted back, pulling Garroth and Lawrence into a hug. The hug was short lived as I pulled away to introduce myself. "Hi nice to meet you, I'm (Y/n)." I held out my hand.
"Arron, nice to meet you too." Arron shook my hand.
"Who's ready to move some boxes?" I looked at the group who nodded and moved to the back of the van. My dad rolled up the back door and we all began grabbing boxes, moving them to the labeled rooms.
With all the help it only took about an hour to empty the truck. My dad ordered us pizza and brought out a couple cases of beer.
"Alright kiddo, I'm gonna let ya settle in and have some fun with your friends. I love you call me if you need anything." My dad hugged me tightly.
"I love you too dad, thank you for your help." I hugged back, then locked the door after my dad left. I made my way back to the circle of my friends, all with a slice and a bottle.
We sat on crates and stacks of boxes, the only furniture I had was my bed and that was in my new room, the rest won't be delivered until tomorrow. I took a seat on an overturned crate between Aphmau and Lawrence. Being away at school and working caused me to miss a lot of these interactions. Although I'm sure when we were younger there was more of a rebellious thrill to drinking in a circle.
"Oh my Irene I remember that!" Aph buried her face in her hands in embarrassment. I hadn't been paying attention to the conversation but I laughed at her reaction. The conversation carried on, I was silent through most of it unless I was addressed specifically. After everyone had finished their pizza and more than a couple beers the group said their goodbyes and began walking home.
I was left in the silence of my new house, by now it was just about six pm, the sun on a steady decline but wouldn't be gone for about an hour and a half. I walked around aimlessly from room to room, until I made it to my bedroom, setting my beer on one of the boxes and unpacking the metal bed frame, deciding now would be a good time to put it together. The light coming from the windows enough to illuminate the room a golden hue. Doing this while tipsy was fun, not at all awkward and silly feeling. After I had finished putting the frame together I began to move my mattress onto the metal bars.
As soon as my bed was in place I heard a chime echo throughout the house, I furrowed my eyebrows, did I get an achievement or something? When I heard the bell again it dawned on me. I have a doorbell now. I hurriedly made my way down the stairs and to the front door, looking through the peephole to see a man with black hair facing the street.
I unlocked the door and stepped back, pulling it open. The man turned back around and we both froze.
"Zane."
"(Y/n)." We both said each other's names in sync, equally as shocked to see the other. "What are you doing here?" He was the first to say anything additional.
"I live here. What are you doing here?" I returned the question, my face was definitely pink and not just from the alcohol coursing through my veins.
"I um, I am part of the neighborhood watch. I greet all the new residents and give them this magnate and tell them to call me if they see anything suspicious." Zane shook his head before going on what seemed to be a practiced spiel and held a fridge magnate out to me. "Welcome to the neighborhood..." Zane started to leave but stopped at the end of my porch, "It was good seeing you." Zane didn't turn back again.
"Wait!" I stepped out onto the porch, calling after Zane. Alcohol and exes do not go good together. Zane stopped, turning back to me. I didn't expect him to stop, I fully expected to be ignored and to have him keep walking but he didn't.
"Yeah?" He asked his tone growing annoyed with lack of reason.
"I don't know, I didn't think you'd stop." I admitted. "Do you wanna come inside?" I pointed to the door. I could tell he thought about it, almost stepping forward but decided against it.
"I'm sure you have a lot of unpacking to do." Zane reasoned, and for some terrible reason it felt like a punch to the gut, "Maybe next time. Have a good night." Zane sounded sad when he turned down my offer but didn't stay, he continued on his path.
I went back inside, feeling rejected and also out of my mind, what was I thinking? Why would he want to see me after all this time? I grunted as I made my way back up my stairs and to my room, laying on my bare mattress and passing out for the night.
