"I'm so proud of you, Sika Babeh." My close friend August said as he hugged me. I always thought August was gorgeous, though he had beady eyes, they were easy to get lost in. He was from New Orleans, but he moved to Texas after a fall out with his mother. He lives with his grandma and little cousin next door to me. He had long, thick hair that he always let me style for him. He was mad tall and lanky, but aint nothing wrong with that. Aug loved him some Sika.
"Awe, thank you Auggie" I cheesed as I stood on my tippy toes to wrap my arms around his neck. "So what's next from here?" He asked, letting me go from the hug and putting his arm around my shoulder. "I'm going to college, Aug, I told you that. It isn't changing." I explained. I watched his face soften with disappointment.
You see, August hated the idea of me leaving him. He graduated a year before me and he never wanted to be separated for more than half a day. Were best friends and I know he wants to be more than that, but I dont want to get caught up and end up messing myself over. I have to focus on my education until it ain't nothing else to focus on. "Come on, Aug. Dont give me that face." I whined, grabbing his shoulders, gently shaking him. "Nah, man. Why you gotta leave Sika?" He groaned moving my hands from his shoulders. I'm going to pretend like that ain't hurt my feelings. August has always been like this. He doesn't understand how important it is to be the first of my family to graduate from college. "Aug, we'll talk every single night, I promise! I'm not leaving yet, babeh. Let's just have fun while I'm here!" I explained, giving him a goofy grin. His lips slowly curled into a smirk, "Aight, man. Chill." he chuckled, kissing my for head.
"Masika!" I heard my best friend, Gaysia, yell through the large crowd of people. I looked over to where she was and smiled. I stood on my tippy toes and waved so she could see me. "Meet me by my car!" She exclaimed and disappeared into the crowd. "Come on." I grabbed August and maneuvered my way through the crowd. I hadn't noticed that August let go of my hand until I'd escaped the buzzing crowd of parents, relatives and graduates. I tried to look over the crowd to spot him but Gaysia insisted that I hurry to her car.
"Where's August?" she asked looking behind me. "I dont know, I lost him in the crowd." I shrugged. "When you gon' make it happen between y'all, Sika? You both know that y'all want each other, so why you holding back?" She lectured. I sighed in annoyance and rolled my eyes. I'll admit, she does have a point. But, I'm tired of having this same damn conversation. No one ever asks me how I'm doing or what I'm up to, it's always, "Masika, when are you and August going to make it official?" or "You guys are such goals, I wonder what you guy's kids are gonna look like." Like, damn. Let Masika have her space! I'll do it when I'm ready to! I just got out of highschool, I have to experience something's first before I get tied down, Not to sound like I'm trying to shack up or anything, but sheesh. "Listen, we had this conversation before! I thought you'd be at least a little understanding of my circumstances at the moment." I grumbled. She rolled her eyes and shifted on her heels. "You're just Scared, Masika. You've always been scared of getting into things like this." She said, it was in a tone of 'yeah, yeah, yeah, bitch. We've heard it all before.' I love Gaysia to death, but I swear she gets on my damn nerves. "Speak of the devil" she smirked behind me. "Hey, August!" She screamed making everyone look our way. "Dammit, Gaysia. Why you gotta be like this?" I face palmed myself lightly and let out a few laughs.
"Hey Gaysia, girl!" August screamed back in an obnoxious tone. My eyes immediately widened as I put my hand over my mouth. "What the hell, y'all! Everyone's looking over here now." I groaned. "So?" They both shrugged and laughed."Ma! Ma! Where are you?" I screamed, dropping my car keys and purse on the living room sofa. No answer. "Mama!" I yelled again. I walked down the hallway to her room and gently knocked on the door. Still no answer. I put my ear to the door and heard banging and moaning. I barged into the bedroom and caught some buff black man getting rode by my mama. "Shit, Ma!" I exclaimed, covering my eyes. She scrambled to get off of the man and covered her self with the blanket pushing her lose hair behind her ear. "Masika, what are you doing here? I thought you were going out with Gaysia" She questioned. "Is this why you weren't at my graduation?" I asked obviously hurt. So she just skipped out on my graduation to get some dick... Hmmm. "Shit! That was today?" She face palmed herself. "Sika, baby. I'm so sorry." she whimpered. "Man whatever. I'm going to Gaysia's house." I shook my head as I turned around slamming the door. I guaranteed you she doesn't even know that man... Just tryna fill the void my daddy left in her heart... With sex... I pray to God she doesn't catch anything trying to find love again.
"Gaysia, I'm finna come through, aight?" I said packing my overnight bag. "aight bye." I hung up and left.Ain't that 'bout a bitch?
