Monday came out of nowhere, my first day of school in Adelaide. I felt like a small rodent caught before a massive truck on the highway, with no way to escape my inevitable fate. But instead of being squished to pieces, I had to face the wrath of a new school full of strangers.
Waking up at seven, I dragged myself downstairs to eat a bowl of Nutri-Grain. Sitting at the table I watched Ben's decision of 'Adventure Time' on the television.
The following thirty minutes consisted of me forcing the knots out of my hair, fitting into the uncomfortably stiff uniform and brushing my teeth. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my dark brown hair was straight and falling neatly behind my shoulders. A horrible dark colour resided under my eyes, possible from the slight time difference, and pimples splashed across my forehead. Taking out my concealer, I carefully corrected my blemishes, followed by taking caution curling my eyelashes and applying mascara. A slight sheen of gloss applied to my lips and I was out the front door with my bag hanging over one shoulder.
Pushing past the iron garden gate, I made my way towards the bus stop at the end of my street. Ahead of me, Ben was already walking with three of his mates he must of have met at the orientation. I plug in my earphones and walked into my own little bubble.
My bubble was enjoyably lonely up to the point where the distinctable figure of Marcus suddenly appeared, his shirt scrunched up his back, undoubtedly from his bag. Sighing, I cut off my music,
"We meet again." I mused,
"Hey," Marcus smiled, "Are you catching the bus?"
"Yeah, my first time so you might have to help me out."
"Lost without me?" He teased, eyes crinkling at the corners.
"Hilarious." I countered, rolling my eyes in return.
Together we reached the small bus stop, already buzzing with a handful of eager school children. Where did they get all this energy from? I remember when I used to have the same energy at that age, always wondering why older kids stopped playing on the playground with us.
