Where We Could Be

As I stand upon this threshold
     Between life and forever
Here is a map stretched far behind
The story has all been told
Will one remember how I got here
Or will all forget the purpose
For which I came and went
                   __   __   __

If I was never to return
What would I want to say
      Will they even understand me
Or will they turn and walk away
I would say, if they allow,
To live to love and live for Love
For once this map is drawn
       It cannot be relived
               __   __   __

Oh God, my map is set in stone
I wish, I wish I could have known
That once I went and came
no more
It would be shut and locked, this door
For you it may seem strange or queer
But when you're here, you'll know this fear
That even as the bloom of tree
     We could be gone --
     None want to be
             __   __   __

      So look, dear friend
(If I can spare you heartache)
Look at my map and try to see
       Where I am now
       And where we could be
