Nia woke, blinking the sleep from her eyes. It was still dark. She rolled onto her side to gaze out the window as she thought back on her conversation with Telani. He had placed his large hands on either side of her face chuckling. "Ah, Little Moon, your mother would say the same thing. Being a Goddess is a great honor, you will get used to the attention." Nia sighed impatiently, placing her hands on her hips "No, not like that, I mean, it feels like I'm being watched." He chuckled warmly again and placed a large hand on her head. "Just because you can not see her during the day, does not mean she is not still watching. Count your blessings Mother still has eyes for you, your own mother was not so fortunate." Nia frowned back at him and he added "You have nothing to worry about Moon Child; the Silver Lady will protect you in all things."
A small rustle snapped her out of the memory and she propped herself up on an elbow to look about the room. Her eyes scanned the fuzzy blackness, straining to make out anything out of the ordinary. She was just lowering herself back into her pillow when a figure came shooting up from the end of her bed. Her scream of terror was lost as the figure immediately jumped on top of her and roughly covered her mouth.
Nia screamed behind the gloved hand and bucked wildly trying to dislodge them. The figure pressed their body down harder against hers, further stilling her movements. Judging on their size and strength, she assumed they were male.
"Shit. Stop. Moving." The man grunted out through gritted teeth.
His hand slipped higher on her mouth and she took the opportunity to bite down. Hard.
The man hissed and shot straight up, still straddling her but holding his hand. Another mistake. This man was clearly a worthless hunter. Nia swiftly popped her knee upwards, connecting it square in his privates. This time he made a more audible noise of pain but nothing loud enough to alert anyone - that disappointed her. Before he could recover Nia slipped out from under his legs and hopped off the bed.
She took a step toward the door and watched as the man stood up. He was dressed in all black, with what looked like tight riding leathers or a soft armor of sorts. A black hood covered his hair and obscured everything below his eyes.
Fear struck into her heart. She opened her mouth and began screaming.
