We entered New York about two hours ago. You could finally see the city along the horizon. I was so excited I couldn't sit still. I felt like I was having a sugar rush. I was going crazy.
We finally made it into the city. It was absolutely beautiful, just like I imagined it. I felt like I was in a movie.
NYU was located in Manhattan. My new apartment is about five blocks from the school, so it would be a little walk or a short taxi ride to get there.
We found the closest parking spot to the apartment as we could. I wanted to arrive a couple days early so I could settle in all the way before going to orientation or any activity fairs.
We met with the landlord to go over any missing information. My parents bought the apartment for me, which was very surprising. I would find a roommate hopefully to have half the cost go back to them.
The apartment wasn't too small and it wasn't too big. It had two bedrooms, one bathroom, a big living room, and a decent size kitchen/dining room area. The apartment was fully furnished with a leather sofa, lazy boy, a small kitchen table, and a small tv. Both bedrooms had queen size beds, dressers, and a full size closet.
It was really nice for a college apartment.
After carrying all that was in the back of the truck, my parents helped unpack some of my boxes. I started getting a little overwhelmed with so much to organize. My dad offered for us to go out to dinner or tour the city. I was honestly really tired and was really craving pizza, so we got pizza delivered. My first ever pizza in New York. I was so excited.
Around midnight my parents went to bed. I stayed up for a while unpacking some things. I ended up falling asleep on top of some clothes I had taken out of a box.
The next morning I said goodbye to my parents. My mom was actually quite emotional saying her goodbyes. My father told me that if I needed anything that all I had to do was call. My mom insisted that I call her everyday.
It was very weird saying goodbye to my parents. It was like my dreams suddenly became a reality. I was going to school, by myself in New York.
I finished unpacking all of my stuff when I heard a knock on the door. I went to open it. A very tall girl was standing in the doorway. She had short black hair and dark brown eyes. "Hi I talked to the landlord and he said you were looking for a roommate. There aren't any open apartments so he mentioned you."
"Oh yeah I am..." I started thinking about things. This sure would make my easier in finding a roommate. "He also mentioned that I would need to pay for half the rent which I'm totally fine with. There's not many apartments available nearby."
"Alright." "What?!" she asked surprised. "I guess I found my new roommate! Welcome. Come on in. Is this all you have?" She only had two large suitcases with her. She took one and carried it in and I grabbed the other. "Oh by the way I'm Veronica. You can call me Roni if you want." "I'm Anna," holding my hand out to shake hers.
"This is really nice." "I know I was really surprised at how well it turned out." I responded.
I showed her her room and left her to settle in. I took apart my empty boxes and told her I would be right back. I walked down the hallway to the stairway. The landlord said that the trash can was at the back of the building. I walked around back down an alley and saw the trash can. I threw the boxes in and headed back inside.
Veronica was sitting on the couch when I walked in. "Are you done unpacking?" "Yeah I didn't really pack a lot. I just figured if I needed anything, I'll just buy it."
"Yeah that's what I did with winter clothes because I'm from Arizona and so I don't have any." "Oh that's so cool, I love Arizona. I'm from Michigan so it gets pretty cold up there."
We continued talking and getting to know each other. Veronica is an only child and she moved out as soon as she was eighteen. When her grandma died, because she was her only grandchild, she left her a ton of money. With the money she paid for school and now is able to pay me for rent. It was really nice to have a new friend in a new home.
We decided that we should go out and tour the city a little bit, do some shopping, and get something to eat. We walked around for a couple of hours. I had bought a lot of new clothes and a few decorations to put up in the apartment. We decided chinese food sounded really good, so we stopped at a cute little chinese restaurant. After dinner we stopped by a grocery store. We decided that we should split grocery's too. We had to get a taxi because of how much stuff we bought.
We got back to the apartment and put all the groceries away. I the bags from my new clothes in my bedroom. When I came back out and walked into the living room, Veronica was sitting at the kitchen table.
"Are you going to go to the activity fair tomorrow?" She asked. "Yeah, I was thinking I could probably find a paid internship." I replied. "Yeah that's a really good idea. Do you want to go together?"
"Yeah that'd be really fun!"
The next morning I showered. It was the second time I had used the shower and I was quite impressed. It was a walk in shower with sliding doors. It was about four five feet wide and it had double shower heads. The bathroom also had a tub which will be nice when I get back into dance.
I wrapped myself in a towel and twirled my hair up into another towel. I brushed my teeth and then dried off. I had picked out an outfit the night before for the festival. I decided on white skinny jeans and a jean button up with the sleeves rolled up open over a floral tank.
I un-twirled my hair out of the towel and started on my makeup while my hair started to dry. With my skin being pretty clear, I didn't wear foundation very often just when I performed usually. I applied some mascara and finished with a little bit of eye shadow. The little bit of mascara and eyeshadow still made my blue eyes pop out. I then started blowdrying my hair. With my hair being down to my hip it took quite awhile for my hair to be fully dried. When it was all dried my hair had a slight natural wave to my hair.
When I walked out of the bathroom, Veronica was fully dressed in a cute casual paisley dress. "Wow, you look really nice! Should I change?" "No, no, you could just put on a pair of heels and you'll end up looking cuter than me." she replied. "Alright."
I slipped on a pair of open toed booties and put on a long gold necklace and a few gold rings and bracelets and I was ready to go.
We walked the five blocks to the school where there was a 'Welcome to NYU Activities Fair'. We walked inside and there was a mob of people. We walked around seeing lots of clubs nerds wanted you to join. There was a few dance booths where I had to sign up for auditions to be able to take any classes. I walked past a booth where they were hiring for dance teachers at a dance studio a couple blocks from the school. I asked for an application and filled all the information needed. It needed my age, any experience, and the purpose. I left my phone number and put my address and handed it back to the lady.
I had kind of lost Roni through the crowd so I walked around looking for her. I accidentally bumped into a guy, apologizing immediately. When I looked up I immediately regretted it. He was very attractive. It looked like he worked out due to the muscles peaking out of his shirt. He was very broad shouldered and was quite tall. He looked down at me and smiled, "Haha it's alright. It's kind of hard not to bump into people in here." "Yeah I guess it kind of is."
I later spotted Veronica talking to two really looking guys. I went over to her as she finished her conversation. "Hey", I said. "Hey, I was just going to go look for you", she replied, "Do you want to go to your first ever college party tonight?"
I think I looked at her strange because she started reassuring me, "Don't worry the party is at the two guys I was talking to. It'll be fun!"
I really never was the party type in high school, so it was really hard to make a decision. I guess since I was starting my own adventure here in New York, why not give partying a try? "Uh sure. Let's go to our first college party."
