"I know you way too well for you to deny it," Sam said, looking me seriously in the eye. "Is Caleb your mate?"

"Yes," I mumbled, placing my head on my arms, "But it doesn't matter because I won't accept him."

Sam slapped his palm against the wooden desk, "Every since we were little, all you wanted to do was find your mate, what changed?"

"My mate is an infuriating asshole?" I answered, "And that we are both Alpha's of separate packs so it would never work without me leaving or him leaving, and thats something neither of us would do."

Sam rubbed his chin, the stubble making a scratchy noise, "What if the two packs joined? It hasn't happened in centuries but its not impossible, just a lot of paperwork."

"Are you hearing yourself?" I asked him, bewildered at the thought, "You want Nivalis to join with the Ardens pack? A pack notorious for stabbing each other in the back and attacking everyone?"

"That was a long time ago," Sam replied, getting up to look for a book on the shelves that would help his cause.

"Even if it were to happen, there is no ways I'm getting with Caleb, Sam." I shook my head, leaning back in the leather chair defiantly.

"Well I'm not telling you to, but maybe give him a chance? He is the one supposedly made for you," he plucked a book off the self and placed it down own the desk, thumbing through the pages.

"Why are you all of a sudden so open to the idea of mates?" I asked Sam, suspicion creeping into my mind, "You were always against the idea of one person being the perfect match, what changed?"

"Is it possible for two different species to be mates?" Sam asked randomly, still flipping through the pages. My mind blanked; the Vampire who knows about the white eyes.

"You think your mate is the Vampire you found, don't you?" Sam nodded and I almost wanted to laugh at the idea. "Thats why you went after her, not because she knows anything."

Sam began to shake his head, looking up at me, "Her name is Lexi and she does know where she could find information on the white eyed Vampire, but she needed help- "

"How did she even find out about the white eyed Vampire?" I asked him, beginning to get angry at the thought of him giving away our secret.

"I've known about Lexi for a few weeks now, I was just waiting for the right time to tell you," sam explained, giving up on the book as he slammed it shut, "I also wanted to be sure."

"So what was she doing on other territory with you?"

"She was coming here to meet me when she caught scent of the white eyed vampire on the night of Mick's death, thats why I disappeared, I had to go with her."

"And thats how she knew about the white eyed Vampire?" I asked him, anger subsiding; Sam hands told her anything.

"I didn't say a word," Sam replied, shaking his head, "she'd heard rumors about it and when she got here to see me and scented it, she took off." He returned the book to the shelf and grabbed another, possibly looking for information on mates. I sighed and got up, grabbing a book from a different shelf and handing it to him.

"If there is anything on other species and mates, it will be in here," I told him, Sam looking up and thanking me before paging through it.

"I'm telling you Mia," Sam stopped and looked me in the eye, "Kissing or even being with your mate is like nothing else. Not even the time we kissed can compare," Sam winked at me, referring to the time we had played spin the bottle in tenth grade and had been forced to kiss one another.

"Yeah whatever," I rolled my eyes, ready to leave the office and Sam's ridiculous new fascination,  "Let me know if you find what you need." Sam nodded, immersed in scanning every page as I left.

Voices from the living room caught my attention as I walked past, making me stop and enter the room. Caleb sat on the couch beside the fire place, surrounded by five of our pack members, both younger and older than Caleb. Angrily I clenched my teeth and fists, Caleb making eye contact with me and beckoning me over.

"I was just telling them about the Egyptian packs and how they keep tigers as pets," he boasted, the girls all staring at him doe-eyed.

"You don't even get tigers in Africa let alone Egypt," I informed them, rolling my eyes as I perched myself on the arm of the arm chair, as far away from Caleb as possible.

"Oh yeah, I'm getting confused with the time I went to India," the girls swooned some more and Caleb smirked at me. Refusing to sit there whilst he told tales, I got up to leave the house, maybe go on a run when Caleb announced, "Sorry girls, looks like Mia and I are leaving."

They all 'booed' as he followed me out the house, trailing closely behind. "Whats your angle to coming here?" I asked him suddenly, turning around and making him stop before he walked into me. "Why did your father make you come here? Did you put in a special request?"

"Yes because I would love to spend my days here when I could be Alpha of my own pack," Caleb replied sarcastically, "My father wants me to help you, so here I am."

"Your father would love to see my pack fall, whats his real angle?" I pried, narrowing my eyes accusingly, "Does he want insider information? Or does he just want to be Alpha for a little longer which is why he keeps on getting rid of you?"

Anger burned in Caleb's eyes and he took a menacing step closer, "He does not get rid of me."

"Well then why does he keep on sending you off to different countries ever since you turned eighteen?" I retorted, taking my own step forward so we were even closer. I knew I was pushing him too much, and that he would eventually snap, but I was just as mad as he was that I had to be babysat.

Caleb bristled, and just when it looked like he was about to do something, Richard stepped in between us. "Enough you two!" He yelled, pushing against both of our chests so we stumbled backwards. "What is going on?"

I glared at Richard for interfering, Caleb growling softly from the other side of him. "You are a guest," he informed Caleb scoldingly before turning to me, "He's is here to help you. Now both you," he looked at each of us pointedly, "are going to sort out your differences because the sooner you do it and learn, the sooner Caleb can go home."

Caleb and I each nodded, still bristling as Richard rubbed his eyes tiredly, "Mia, why don't you take Caleb for a run? Show him the territory?" It sounded like a question but I knew he wasn't going to take no for an answer.

I hesitated, looking at Caleb who seemed to be calming down. "Fine, but if he touches me, I will kill him," I threatened, glaring at Caleb. Richard gave me a look before turning to walk back into the house, looking back at us once before disappearing.

"Do you always let your Beta boss you around like that?" Caleb asked, raising an eyebrow at me as I scoffed and turned towards the trees, taking in a deep breath of air before I said something I would regret.

"Now, do you want to go on a run or not?" I didn't wait for an answer before I was bounding off towards the trees.
