The door opened abruptly, revealing a distraught looking Luke. The corners of his mouth were turned downward in a frown, his face only lighting up a tiny bit at the sight of me. His eyes widened with what looked like worry washing over them. He stepped out in front of the door, shutting it quietly behind him.

"You shouldn't be here." He muttered, avoiding eye contact with me as he stared down at the ground.

"I just wanted to see how you were doing." I replied, searching his eyes for an explanation as to why he was acting so strange.

"Why didn't you call first?" He questioned, staring over my shoulder before finally meeting my eyes. There was no sign of annoyance, but a certain hint of sadness in them.

"I haven't seen you for over a week, Luke." I defended, "You haven't been answering any of my calls or texts. Where have you been?"

"Rebekah.." Luke's features scrunched up in frustration, and I knew there was something he was deliberately keeping from me. My heart dropped. We never kept anything from each other, we used to tell one another everything. I reached forward to hold one of his hands in mine. "I miss you."

He pulled away, breaking eye contact and glaring down at the ground once again. "You shouldn't have come."

A deep voice suddenly boomed from the other side of the door. Luke jumped at the sound of what I guessed to be his dad's voice.

"Did you hear me?" The voice called out once again, getting louder as the man moved closer to the front door. Luke ran a hand through his already disheveled blonde hair, and looked worriedly between me and the front door. "I said, get your ass in here!"

Luke looked in between me and the front door before flashing me the tiniest and saddest smile he's ever given me, and turned away. He opened the door only a little bit so that I couldn't see past his shoulder inside the familiar house, and slipped inside.

I stood there, chewing on my bottom lip anxiously. I couldn't just leave, there was definitely something going on with Luke, and it did not seem pleasant. I stepped forward, close enough to the door to hear Luke shouting something at his dad. I shook my head, knowing I couldn't do this. Luke wished me away, I wasn't invited to stay, and I wasn't going to. I was almost down his porch steps when I heard a loud yelling coming from inside, followed by a huge crash.

That was the last day I heard from Luke for two years.

"Angel." A voice hissed from directly beside me. I turned my head to glance in Luke's direction. He was smirking at me, an amused expression displayed over his features. "Daydreaming about me?"

I frowned. Not exactly. I'd had another one of those dreams last night, and I just couldn't stop myself from thinking about it during the day. Forcing myself to smile back at him, I said, "of course. Because I don't have anything better to do, right? And I wasn't daydreaming. Just thinking."

Luke raised his eyebrows, as if to tell me he wasn't buying it, but shrugged anyway. "Let's do something tonight."

"Like?" I questioned, intrigued at the idea of going out with Luke. Whether I really still had feelings for him or not, I always had fun with him on our dates.

"I thought that we could just hang out at your place." He suggested, staring at me hopefully.

I nodded slowly, "Sure, if that's what you want. But Ty will probably be home. He's studying for some big test that's coming up."

"That's fine. How is your big brother, anyway? Still hate me?" He sat back in his seat, his half grin still plastered on his face.

"Probably. Guess he has a good taste in people." I joked while laughing quietly, cautious not to call any attention from the class to me and Luke.
