I opened the large glass door with shaky hands. The building I stepped into was about 10 floors and was beautifully structured. The windows were shaped in diamonds and squares. There was art painted on it and there was public art pieces just outside it. Inside, the lobby looked professional and sophisticated. There were colorful paintings on the wall and there were also fountains. I saw the elevator and went towards it shaking. I wanted to throw up. Butterflies flew all around my stomach. I entered the elevator and pressed the button for floor #10. The acting/talent floor of the agency. Today I was going to start my dream of acting. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. The elevator beeped at each floor, when it beeped at floor 10 the large steel doors opened. I walked out and saw a large front desk with an enormous logo just behind it on the wall that said "St. Peter's talent agency" "The greatest and most recommended in Arizona." There was a person sitting at the front desk, furiously typing at the computer. I nervously walked up to the desk and tried to get the ladies's attention.
"Excuse me?"I asked.
The lady looked up at me.
"Yes? What do you need?" She asked kindly.
"I have an appointment with Delly." I stated.
"Okay, name please?"
"A.J Montgomery"
She gave me a strange look.
"Just A.J?" She asked confused.
"Yes, just A.J."
" Okay then, Delly will be right with you."
"Thanks."
I went to go sit in the large waiting area. It had fancy embroidered seats and beautiful plants. A glass coffee table sat in the middle of the room with some magazines. I checked the time on my phone, 10:50, right on time. I grabbed a Vouge magazine and flipped through the pages. It must have been five minutes when my name was called.
"A.J Montgomery, Delly is ready for you." A person said to me.
I wiped my sweaty hands on my skirt and got up to go to Delly's office and felt like collapsing I was so nervous. As I approached the door I had to make sure I had my composure. I put my hand on the door handle and opened it.
I walked in to see a woman about in her late 40's and has brown hair that is graying at the roots. Her brown eyes are concentrated on the computer screen in front of her. I took a few steps then she finally noticed me. She quickly looked up and smiled as she stood to greet me.
"A.J it's a pleasure to meet you." She said as she shook my hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too ma'am."
" Oh please, ma'am is so old, just call me Delly."
" I'll remember that!" I replied with a giggle.
"Ok so let's get down to business." She said.
"Now, I've read your resume and it all looks quite fascinating. You are how old?" She asked.
"I'm 18."
"You have accomplished a lot in high school."
"I guess."
" I mean all 4 years of theatre, perfect attendance, starred in 5 school plays, not to mention ones outside of school. You've also managed at least two years of principal's list. How did you accomplish all this?" She asked with shock and excitement.
"I don't know I just pushed myself to follow my dreams and to not give up. I had to do what I needed to have done and I knew that, so I guess it was just self motivation."
"A.J that's phenomenal, just exquisite." She gushed.
"Thank you."
" No problem, now I assume you have your monolouge ready as well as your music piece?" She asked.
" Yes I do."
" Well then let's see what you got."
I got up from my seat and made room for me to move. I performed a song, "Don't Rain On My Parade" from the Broadway musical Funny Girl. She said to use something from a popular Broadway show so I went with one of the easier options. After I finished that she asked me to do my monologue. I finished that and Delly was smiling like crazy.
"That was absolutely wonderful A.J! I am astonished."
" Oh, thank you so much."
" Now that you've done that there is really nothing to do but tell you that I'll give you a call in about a week."
"Thank you so much ma- I mean Delly."
"It's my pleasure sweetheart." She smiled.
We exchange a hug and said goodbye. I exited the building practically skipping. I've never felt so alive and happy. Things are finally looking up for me.
