Teressa rang the doorbell to her friend's home, and she waits for an answer. After a few seconds, she began to knock loudly. The night's cold air was not doing her good, especially with her broken heart. She knocks again hoping for her friend Rose would answer soon.
Rose couldn't get more annoyed at the continuous knocking. She knows there's only one person who would have the guts to knock at someone's door in the middle of the night. She wraps herself in a robe and walks lazily towards the door. "I'm coming," she called out.
Rose opened the door and sees her friend who is smiling sheepishly outside her door. "What is it this time?" she asks. Teressa only comes to her house when there's a problem in her life. She's become her personal therapist when she's really a professional educator.
"Can I come in?" Teressa sweetly asks her friend. She was about to step in when Rose suddenly blocks her.
"No," Rose sternly says. Teressa was in shock of her response as she was never denied by her for help. "You came here in the middle of the night. I don't wish for your stay to be long because I've been up all night for the past days for my students," she tells Teressa, "Whatever you need to say, you say it here."
"I-I just want to talk about him," Teressa stutters, now afraid of her angered friend. "He dumped me." She looked to the ground. Not a single tear would fall at that moment.
Teressa waits for her friend to hug her like how she would normally do. She waited but nothing came. "What does that have to do with me?" Rose asks Teressa. "You should stop moping about this guy. He already dumped you twice before so get used to it."
Teressa looked at her friend with disbelief. What happened to her kind, sweet friend that she had grown to love? Her disbelief turned to anger. "Why are you cruel all of a sudden?" she asked in a loud voice.
"Cruel?" Rose asked, "I'm not the cruel one here, Teressa. Didn't I tell you to leave him before?" Teressa didn't speak. Her friend was right on that. "Didn't I tell you find someone better 'cus he obviously doesn't love you?" Rose opened her door wide and stepped up to her friend. "Didn't I tell you this over and over again?"
"Y-you did but-"
"But what? You love him?" Rose's tone became harsher, "You're so-called 'love' was toxic, not good. The whole world knows."
Teressa became angry and tries to size up her once-called friend. "Could you stop being such a bitch! What happened to you? You were my friend?" she starts screaming.
Rose laughs. "Friend?" she says, "I was never your friend, not to you. I was your therapist. The person you go to when you have problems; nothing more." She smiles mockingly at Teressa, "Guess what? I'm tired of it. I'm tired of listening to your love problems. I gave you advice that you wouldn't take. I'm tired, okay?"
Teressa felt disrespected at this point. "You know why I don't take your advice?" Teressa asks, "It's because your advice has no basis. When was the last time you felt love or was in a relationship?"
Rose maintains her smile. "It was much more recent than you thought," she says, "But you wouldn't know since you never asked about me." She then closes the door, leaving her friend outside, speechless.
