I listen to the bells echoing from the distant as I take another breath, another step. Sitting on the empty bench in the middle of an empty field is a girl, a girl who had a dream. I took another deep breath and watched whatever is in front of me, taking every bit of detail: the dried up grass, the blue sky, the chirping birds, the little pond. The world kept spinning around and around, and I couldn't quite catch up. I touch the tips of my fingers which never stopped shaking. Why won't they stop? I took in another breath.
"Hold on," I whisper to myself.
I stand up and took a stroll around the empty space. As I walk, I hear voices; they sound happy and excited. I followed it, and there I saw families and children playing and laughing. The children were running around, playing tag. I watched them like I'm in a trance by their little cheers. Suddenly, I felt something bump me. I blink a few times before looking down and seeing a little girl. "I'm sorry," she says with her little voice. I gave her a smile before she runs back to her buddies. I blinked a few times again and shake my head.
"Hold on," I whisper to myself.
I found myself walking on a sidewalk. The cars zipped past me with their smoke as grey as the dimming sky. I watched as children in ragged clothing walk up to the people asking for change, even the smallest of amounts. I look down and tried my best not to make any eye contact with anyone. I stopped when I caught sight of flowers. I looked up and saw a wall full of faces, pictures of unfamiliar people. There were flowers and candles on the ground. I look at the pictures. Some of them looked happy while some didn't. Some pictures were ripped while others looked like they were newly printed. The man beside me let out a small laugh then huffed out the smoke from his cigarette. I coughed as the smoke reaches my nose and mouth.
"Hold on," I whispered to myself.
I reach the steps of my house and wiped my shoes before entering. It was dark and cold inside. I switched on the lights and sat down on a chair in the dining room. I tapped my fingers on the table, it's pace quickening after every second. "Welcome home, love!" I feel a warm embrace and I close my eyes. I smile as I sighed. He kissed me on the cheek and held my hand which stopped shaking. There we were. Just the two of us holding on.
