today was my last day off until i had to work again, and i was not going to let it slip by. hanna and i had made plans to spend all day out and about, starting with breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants.

well, it was more of a cafe. it was definitely a very unknown place, which is why i loved it. it was never too busy or crowded. on a busy day, there could be maybe 20 or so people in there. so, yeah, not busy.

it was about a ten minute drive from my apartment, so we took my car down. and, as it is a routine for us whenever we're in the car together, we blasted music on our way.

"one, don't pick up the phone you know he's only calling cause he's drunk and alone." hanna belted out the verse, allowing me to follow with the next verse.

"two, don't let him in, you'll have to kick him out again." my hands drummed on the steering wheel as we sat at a red light, ignoring the glances from other drivers. blasting your music while having the windows rolled down clearly isn't accepted by some.

"you know, i didn't think i'd be as obsessed with song as much as i didn't like this song when i first heard it." hanna spoke as she turned the volume down a bit, her fingers tapping against the rolled down window.

"how did you not like this song in the first place? it's such a bop." i scoffed, looking over at her in shock before looking back to the lights as it flashed green.

"you know how i am. i have to listen to a song multiple times to actually love it. i don't know why, it's just a thing i've always done." i saw her shrug out of the corner of my eye.

"i still don't believe that's a good excuse." it was hanna's turn to scoff now, but she didn't say anything.

i turned the car into the cafe parking lot, which was very, very tiny. parking and locking the car, hanna and i headed through the doors of the cafe.

"i wish we had something like this in my town." hanna whined, her gaze traveling around the quaint place. i chuckled, walking past her and towards the counter.

"addy! long time no see." i smiled as i heard the familiar voice of my neighbor, lexi. her and i had grown very close, and i'd consider her to be my 2nd best friend.

"nice joke. you know what i want, but hanna always changes her mind so i'll allow her to order for herself." i took a step back from the counter and allowed hanna to view the menu written in chalk on (duh) a chalkboard that spanned across the wall above the counter.

lexi put in my order, then hanna's, which, as i had guessed, was different than last time. i paid her, taking hanna's wallet away from her so she couldn't offer to pay, and then we took a table that had a view of the brook that ran behind the cafe.

as it wasn't busy and lexi wasn't the one to make the food and the manager of the place honestly let the workers do what they wanted, as long as it wasn't, like, having sex on the tables or doing cocaine on the counter or stuff like that, she came over to us and chatted while our food was prepared.

"you know she's talking to a guy?" hanna grinned, looking at me and winking. i groaned, shaking my head (again).

"what, seriously!? who?" lexi turned her full attention on me, curiosity covering her features.

"don't listen to her. i'm not talking like that talking with him. we met the other day and he seemed pretty cool so we've been chatting a little bit." i shrugged, not really thinking much of it.

"you didn't answer my question. who is he? and also, you immediately went to the defensive so yes! you two are talking!" lexi grinned, and high fived with hanna. i threw my head back in exasperation, knowing they would pick out every detail i used in my tone of voice to tell me i liked him.
