"You're not as evil as people think you are." Zéphryn claimed.
"No, I'm much worse. Don't try to look for me." I rushed out of the hall, or what was left of it - and into the forest. Two months later...
"Right here Jeanette!" I exclaimed as she lowered gracefully on the ground. Her pure white wings reflected the light to cascade a rainbow.
Suddenly I was startled. "Émeline? Is that you? I've been looking everywhere!" It was Zéphryn. He dropped his basket of wild berries and almost suffocated me with his hug.
"Yes, it's really me. But why would come here?" I pushed him back.
He looked at me, confused. "Didn't you hear? Everyone's moving away because of--"
I interrupted him. "Because of me. I get it. I'm the reason why there is nothing left for people here. I'm the reason that people are homeless, suffering and cold. It is all my fault."
"No. That's not why. Well, partially, but not wholly. Not completely. It's just that-" He stuttered.
"Just spit it out!" I yelled.
"Everyone's looking for protection and they're searching for ways stop humans from coming. Fallwayne's core generator was stolen last week. Ever since, we've received signals from planet Earth. They want to communicate with us."
"Oh no." I stepped back. I could no longer hear Zéphryn's voice. Everything echoed. Everything was a blur.
