Mikaela was as sly as a rat as she scurried through her door at 10 past midnight. The hallway was pitch black using only her phone as light. Her hair a mess, as she quickly pulled out the braiding that Andrea had done earlier in her hair. She quietly took of her shoes before removing her coat and placing it over the bannister.

She had succeeded at the first part of sneaking in, now the second part. The stairs. As one foot ascended up the stairs, the hallways light flickered on. There stood her dad in the middle of the living room door. As Mikaela saw him she jumped with fright.

Her breathing escalating then deescalating as she realised it was her dad. "You scared the life out of me," she told her father. He stood in his night time robe, the colour of the robe, grey reflected Mikaela's dad's face. His wrinkles showed more than normal, his mouth in a frown.

"It's gone midnight Mikaela," Karl spoke. His body already showing signs of gaining weight, his eyes looked bloodshot. As the weeks passed Mikaela's parents seem to have become worse and worse.

"I lost track of time," Mikaela's voice was low and dismissive as she turned away from her dad.

Karl breathed deeply as he only watched Mikaela. Mikaela slowly began walking back up the stairs.

"Mikaela," he called. Mikaela didn't dare look at him in the eye. "Next time a message or a call just anything to let us know that you're okay," karl's voice went from firm to caring. All he wanted was Mikaela to be safe, for her not to have the same fate as Rae.

"Okay dad," Mikaela said turning her head to him this time. "It won't happen again," Mikaela now quickened her pace up the stairs and went straight for her room.

She quietly closed the door behind her. Mikaela wasn't sure though what she was apologising for, was it the fact that she was out late or that she hadn't told her parents.

Maybe both.

Mikaela shook her head as she made her way to her bed.

She curled up under her covers, still fully clothed and some make-up still on her face. What was Mikaela slowly turning into? A smart girl who's suddenly popular, hot and respected or another Rae?

Mikaela didn't think about any of those things as she slowly drifted off that night, the only thing on her mind, that was constantly on her mind day and night. I wonder what Blake is doing?

Mikaela was already up at 9 on a the saturday morning, she felt well rested, relaxed and just good. She would usually at this time have a quick breakfast then start her many hours of revision and book reading. But this time she was going to do something different.

With an extra long yawn, she got up from her bed and made her way down into the kitchen. Her mom was making some toast with eggs and her dad reading the newspaper. A picture perfect family right?

Well it appeared like that, deep down each member of the family was severly hurt and would never truly heal. A wound that is caused by death will never leave you. That was something Mikaela's family knew very well. Without Rae was like no butter on your bread, no fun in parties, no electricity in a lampost. As much as Mikaela and Rae were different they needed eachother, they were opposities but that was how it should have always been between them.

However now it was just Mikaela, she wasn't a twin anymore, she was just an only child.

The doorbell rang three times consecutively. Who could it possibly be? The family of the house was in, surely other family would be too distraught to be coming out of their house at this time.
