I woke up on my bed with Gavin's arms around me.
I smiled with my eyes closed, wondering if today would be the day that I would fool my Mate.
"I know you're awake silly" Gavin murmured in to my ear with a smile brushing my charcoal black hair with his fingers.
"Really, again?" I exclaimed with fake sadness.
"Yeah really" he laughed quietly.
"I didn't fool you even a little?" I questioned looking into his chocolatey eyes.
"Nope, now get up and help me get ready. Today is not a lazy day sadly." Gavin said as he got off the bed and stretched.
"uuuugh... Do you really have to go to the meeting. I really don't think you should go... It could be dangerous " I told Gavin as I sat up and looked at him with pleading eyes. He stopped stretching and gasped holding his hand over his chest dramatically
"Who are you... The Elizabeth I know isn't afraid of anything, much less a pesky Alpha threatening our pack's territory" I sighed.
"But even Lexi said she was worried about Domingo going, and he's Alpha ." He chuckled a little and I crawled over to him and stood up to give him a kiss.
"Please be careful, I don't want you to get hurt." I told him as I headed towards the bathroom.
I took a shower and then went to the closet to get my usual outfit of a pair of jeans, a tank top, and black knee high boots. After getting dressed I got my phone and went down for breakfast.
"Look at you sleepyhead, late like always." Lexi, the Alpha's Mate and my best friend, exclaimed as I entered the dining room while she stood in the doorway greeting the pack.
"What, are you jealous that I'm aloud to sleep in, but little miss Luna can't because she has 'work to do'" I responded sarcastically with quotation marks and all.
"Haha very funny, let's see if you say that when I'm gone and you actually have to cook for yourself" she replied.
"No thanks, I would rather your cooking over mine any day."
"Just go take a seat." she said as she rolled her eyes and nudged me in the direction of Gavin and the empty chair next to him. I sat down and looked down at my portion of fruit salad, eggs, and bacon, all with a glass of orange juice to water down the meal.
I was in the middle of wolfing down my breakfast, when the pack's Beta came into the room from the private dining room and called forth the group that was going to accompany the Alpha Domingo and himself to the meeting with Albert Knight, the Alpha of the Knight pack that was threatening our territory.
My hand immediately went to Gavin's knee as I stared into his eyes begging him to stay.
"I have to go, duty calls Elizabeth." he said placing his hand on my cheek gently. I leaned into his hand and said with a huff
"I know, I just have a bad feeling about this"
"Don't worry... I'm going to be fine" Gavin responded, trying to make me feel better.
"Yeah you're right, but still.. Be careful and I love you"
"I love you too Eli" and with that he got up and left to serve as a body guard to the Alpha.
I never thought that was going to be the last time I saw Gavin my Mate alive.
