Ch.2 A Tale of Sorrow

Gavin had been gone for a good chunk of the day. Lexi and I were already preparing for dinner.

We were talking about how some teenagers were about to turn 18 and go off to find their mates, and how our love stories had been.

We were walking towards the kitchen when she asked me how it worked out between our family's when Gavin and I were mated.

"Well it was awkward at first because my mom's sort of jealous frenemy was Luna of Gavin's pack at the time and she hated me with a passion. " I said giggling at the memory of Georgia's face when Gavin said I was his mate.

"You should have seen her...it was hilarious "
"Wait, your Mom knew Georgia Rey? Grab those plates while your here... How did they know each other? " she asked me as she grabbed a stack of plates herself.

"Well, they were in school together... and my Mom told me Georgia was always jealous of her fighting skills. But she met Alpha Rey in an Alpha Meet. " I responded as I picked up the plates and started walking towards the dining hall.

"Mom said that night G- AAH" all of the sudden I felt as if someone shoved their arm into my chest and latched on to my heart.

CRASH! I doubled over and dropped the plates on the marble floor, but the sound of the ceramic plates breaking before me did nothing to diminish the pain.

I felt a strong hand squeeze my heart and I fell on the broken plates cutting my legs and I hugged my chest... Suddenly I felt my heart get ripped out of my chest, I gasped the pain not letting me make another sound as I fell forward into the bed of broken plates.

Lexi set down her plates and knelt next to me as I started convulsing and sobbing.

"something happened. Something happened to him... something happened. " My voice sounded weak and my chest throbed with pain, but I wouldn't let the darkness take me.
"She shh shh... It's okay.. I'm sure he's oka-" I cut her off

"NO HE'S NOT! SOMETHING'S WRONG!" I pushed her off and sat up trying to get up, but failing and falling again and again only to cut my legs over and over again. But no matter how many times I cut my legs... nothing could compare to the pain I felt in my chest.

"CALM DOWN ZEE!" Lexi yelled at me and I look at her furiously.
"CALM DOWN? CALM DOWN? LEXI I JUST FELT MY HEART GET RIPPED OUT OF MY CHEST! AND YOU'RE TELLING ME TO CALM DOWN! " I screamed back in anger. I finally got up and let out the most terrifying and sorrow filled howl anyone has ever heard.

Those who were already staring in shock shivered to the core, and the rest backed up against the walls in fear. I looked to my right to the great mirror the hung on the wall and growled.

My usual emerald green eyes were pitch black, my pants were torn and bloody and so was my shirt, and my fangs had gotten longer.

In anger I punched the mirror shattering it and making everyone jump.

At that moment I heard the door open, and with inhuman speed I ran for the foyer.

They looked up at me and sadness filled their eyes.

There stood Alpha Domingo, the Beta and three bodyguards . . .

But no Gavin.

.

.

"WERE THE HELL IS HE?! " I yelled at them. Sorrow filled their eyes and Domingo looked at the ground and then back at me.

"Elizabeth... I'm sorry bu-"

"SORRY? SORRY? I JUST FELT MY HEART GET RIPPED OUT OF MY CHEST! AND ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS FUCKING SORRY?! " I yelled at him. They all jumped and looked down at the ground.

"Alpha Knight gave us three options. Number one is give them half our land. Number two was a one on one battle with me with all my land and pack members at stake. And number three....well, him rip the heart out of one of our pack members." Domingo said quietly, his voice full of sorrow. I looked at him in disbelief.
" So you went with number three" my voice almost a whisper. I looked at the ground in shock.
"SO YOU, THE ALPHA OF ONE... NO, THE MOST POWERFUL PACK IN THE NATION CHOSE THE COWARDS WAY OUT INSTEAD OF A FIGHT? HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU GOT THIS POSITION ON THE FIRST PLACE?!" I yelled with venom dripping off my tongue and everyone jumped even a maiden girl stumbled and fell, I looked over at her with murderous eyes and everyone froze.

To intervene Domingo spoke up
"Yes now that you mention it I do have a really high position known as Alpha so I will not take this kind of disrespect from a warrior!" he said putting on a brave face in front of his pack.

I scoffed "An Alpha is supposed to do everything in his power to protect his pack and it's members, not sacrifice them so he doesn't have to fight. I don't see an Alpha in you Domingo, I see a coward." with that I pushed passed him knocking him back a couple steps, I then shifted and let out another painful howl. I began to run towards the woods.

I spent the rest of the day and most of the night burning off energy, and when I finally was too tired to move I looked up at the moon, howled and shifted back to human form.

I spent the rest of the night sobbing naked on a rock in the forest.

In the wee hours of the morning I snuck back into the pack house and didn't leave my bed for weeks.

Because the bed was the only thing that still had a faint smell of Gavin.
