The Elementals

The next morning, Maggie, Dillion, and I woke up with class schedules flashing in our eyes as soon as we woke up. Our bunks were literally slots in the wall, which made our room more spacious. Inside of our bunks was a hidden screen on the wall above our heads that acted as part of the Communication Center's way of reaching out to us for news or warnings.  I almost felt bad when I felt a bump underneath me and heard Dillion curse.

"What kind of classes do you guys have?" Maggie asked from her bunk above me, yawning soon afterwards.

"Looks like they gave me advanced classes." Dillion responded below me. "Long story short, I've been using my abilities for as long as I can remember, so I guess that makes sense.

"Beginning classes for me." I chimed in, scrolling through the classes and tapping on each description."What about you, Maggie?"

"Mediocre level for me." I heard her say quietly.

"How were you able to get mediocre level classes?" I asked, poking my head out of my bunk so I could look up at Maggie. She looked away from me, tears threatening to spill. That's when the realization washed over me. "You've known about them for a while now, haven't you?" A small nod from the blonde was all the confirmation that I needed.

"Why didn't you tell me any sooner?" I asked, wanting to know why she had kept it from me.

"Look, I hate to rain on your parade, but we're going to be late for our first class if we don't get ready to leave soon." Dillion cut in, rolling out of his bunk and walking towards the closest that was filled with our uniforms and standard combat boots for the three of us.

"Look Light, I promise that I'll explain it all later on to you, okay?" She said, climbing out of her bunk and going straight for the closet. I exhaled, climbing out of my bunk and following Maggie. All I could hope for is that she didn't have a drastic reason behind keeping something this important hidden from me.

"Alright class, if you would take a look around the classroom, you'll notice that I've placed you in some sort of group. Each group represents the type of abilities that you possess. Of course, some of you have more than one ability, but that's okay, we'll have designated times for you to work with those groups in the future." The teacher, Mr. Fares, spoke.

Apparently, it's common for teachers to go undercover at schools to catch Untouchables in time before it's too late. It made me wonder if there were any kids who didn't get notified in time...or what could've happened to them.

"In the middle, you'll notice that most of you are apart of the biggest group in the classroom. We categorize you guys as the Minders because your powers have something to do with the mind in one way or another."

In the middle of the group, I could see Dillion's fingers tapping absentmindedly, a look of boredom spread across his face. Towards the edge of the group, I noticed Wraith fiddling around with his gloves, the history book on his desk untouched.

"In the right corner of the classroom, we have the Shifters, which usually involves some sort of shifting into something else." I looked over and found Maggie looking down at the book, not reading it or wanting to look up to meet my eyes. I wanted to reach out and comfort her, but I knew that it'd have to wait for later.

"Next to the Shifters, we also have the Animators, which can move things that usually don't move on its own. Several of you in other categories can fit in this group perfectly." Mr. Fares explained, pacing the front of the classroom as he lectured.

"And in the other corner, we have the Elementals, whose powers deals with anything to do with the elements...unfortunately, we lost one of our Elementals last year to the Government..." Mr. Fares trailed off, stopping in front of his podium. Across the room, I noticed Luciana sitting with the Shifters, her head hung low.
