'I wasn't gonna hurt her.' A bass voice echoed in Sammy's head.
'Raff, couldn't you tell she was terrified? You're a wolf for Pete sake.' Nikki's raised lips showcased her sharp little white teeth as she scolded the larger wolf now cowering in front of her feet.
'It...It's ok Nikki. I just didn't know Raff was so big.' Sammy's voice was quivery but she made her feet move forward until she was right in front of Raff.
'Hi Raff, I'm Sammy.' Sammy kept her mouth closed as she thought her greeting, wanting to run her fingers through his fur but not daring to touch him yet.
'Hi Sammy, nice ta meet ya.' His head perked up along with his ears as his tongue lolled out in a big wolfy grin which made Sammy giggle.
Nikki seemed to frown as she looked from Raff to Sammy and back again like a tennis match.
'You can hear him?' Nikki's voice echoed a little panicked in Sammy's head.
'Yes, can't you?'
'Oh jeez, she can hear me! That's wonderful!' Raff jumped up and hopped around like a little bunny instead of a giant wolf, his nails digging into the floor spitting up little pebbles which made Sammy laugh out loud this time. Franklyn is gonna love his companion.
'You're only supposed to hear your companion but he's your brother's, not yours. How is this possible?' Nikki muttered the latter pacing back and forth, Raff ignoring her still cooing over being heard by a human and hopping around in circles.
'Nikki, when will Franklyn get here?' Nikki stopped pacing and looked back at the door. When Sammy turned to look at the door, an adult in white waved her over.
'We've gotta get you ready for dinner.' Nikki's tail wagged slightly but Sammy could tell that she was worried about something.
'Will Raff be coming with us?' Sammy asked in her head, getting used to the mental conversations.
'No, he doesn't leave here until his companion comes.' Nikki said absently but when Sammy turned to leave, Raff tugged on her sleeve.
'You'll come visit me, won't ya Sammy?' His deep voice reverberated in her mind and she grinned at the giant wolf's uncertainty. She didn't know him very long but she already liked Raff a lot.
'Of course! I'll see you a bit later.' He howled and started hopping around again, pebbles raining all over Nikki who shook herself and darted for the door and called for Sammy to follow.
