Chapter 5- Zayn
Angelica.
Angelica.
The name repeats constantly in my head, I can't get the name out. I've tried so hard but it's impossible.
Thinking about her makes me feel good though.
And I don't know of I want to stop.
I'm hooked on her.
"Excuse me sir, but do you happen to have any books by Shakespeare?" A woman in her late 20's with bleach blond hair came up to me. She looked all fake with her nails, earrings and the pounds of makeup she had on. I was surprised she was looking for such a sophisticated author.
"Yes. Go all the way down to the back of the room. It will be the 4th bookshelf you see."
"Okay. Thank you." She held her purse and walked back awkwardly, almost if she couldn't walk in those 4 inch heels she had on.
People were strange these days. You never no who you might run into.
I worked in a small book store in the middle of town. Considering how small this town was, you could say it was sort of popular. My father owned this store as well as one in the city of London. He was always at the one in London, so I never see him as much as I want to.
And when my mother left us, I barely saw him at all.
She left before my high school graduation. I was looking for her out in the audience, the school saved her a seat because she has done so much to help.
I got up to get my diploma, but I never saw her.
And I don't think I ever will again.
I pushed the unwanted thoughts out of my mind and focused on the bookstore. Because there was the bell chiming signaling that another customer came in. I couldn't see them because the register was in the middle of the store. But I could hear a bit of their conversation.
"Caitlin! This will take like 3 minutes I just want to get this one book!"
Another girl responded with a very annoyed tone.
"Yeah well you told me we would go shopping! Like I said, you really need it."
I felt bad for the other girl. Having a friend that had to have her way.
"Okay look see? I found my book. Now we can go."
I heard the footsteps come closer and closer and soon I saw the brown headed, green eyed girl that has been on my mind for the past few hours since I've seen her.
"Angelica," I say with a smile on my face.
"Oh um, hi Zayn. I didn't know you worked here."
I looked at the other girl that must be her friend Caitlin that she was arguing with her before. She had a small grin on her face and her eyes on Angelica, watching while she spoke.
"Well my siblings work her sometimes. My dad owns the store. Do you want me to ring that up for you?" I pointed towards the book she had and I noticed it was Fahrenheit 451.
I've read the book but I don't remember much of it. But I remember it was a dystopian world where books were forbidden.
"Yeah, thanks." She handed me the book and just before she looked down, I saw the red on face. Her smile was magnificent. It was a crooked kind of smile that where most of her lips went on one side. But I found it breathtaking.
I scanned the book and she handed me the money.
"Thank you," I said as I put the book in a small bag.
"Thank you." She gave me a playful smile. Just then I remembered her friend and thought of introducing myself finally.
"Hi, I'm Zayn." I extended my hand for her to shake, which she did.
"Oh I know who you are. Angelica spoke about you. I'm Caitlin. You saw each other last night at the bar right?"
"Oh did you know?" I teased Angelica. "And yes we did. We actually met on the streets." I corrected her friend, Caitlin.
"Ah, that's an odd way to meet."She bunched her nose up to make her face all scrunched up, while I took that as a way of telling me she found that very odd. But she continued talking."You know you should feel pretty special. Angelica here doesn't talk much to people. But you're an exception apparently."
I was filled with joy, knowing that she wanted to talk to me; she didn't push me away like her friend told me. She wanted to talk to me. But my happiness was soon put to an end when Angelica said,"Alright, maybe we should go. Caitlin you wanted to go shopping so let's go shopping. It was nice seeing you again Zayn." She have me a smile that seemed to be forced. She pulled Caitlin with her to the front of the store and left me behind.
The thoughts lingered in my head.
Why would she talk to me if she doesn't talk to other people?
Why did she leave right when Caitlin said that?
Was she just to nervous that she had to talk to me?
And my last question was just one word :
Why?
