I Swear I Love You

Chapter 5

Two months later, Karina was still staying at her sister refusing all attempts by Caleb to reconcile and work on their marriage.

She sank into a state of depression that had Alexandra worried. Karina refused to eat and she had lost a lot of weight.

Totally fed up with the situation, Alexandra called Caleb at his office and yelled, "This is ridiculous. My sister is sitting in my home wasting away and I'm helpless. I'm scared. She needs help, serious help. Karina needs you!"

Taking a deep breath, Caleb stated,"I tried but you know she ignores me. I love your sister but she keeps pushing me away. I want to help her. I want to hold her in my arms and let her know that I will be there for her no matter what. I want her to be able to confide in me and tell me what happened. You know better than anyone Alexandra that will never happen."

Alexandra tried one more time,"Please Caleb, my sister needs you right now, even if she is too blind to admit it. Please help her."

"You better open this door Karina or I will break it down! I'm not joking." Seeing that Karina still refused to open the door, Caleb looked at his sister-in-law and said,"I'm sorry but send me the bill."

Caleb then kicked the door in. Seeing the condition of his wife tore him apart. Karina was furious. She looked at Alexandra and yelled,"How dare you! You had no right! Damn you for meddling in my life!"

When she tried storming pass Caleb, he pulled her back to him and hugged her. At first she tried to get out of the embrace. When she realised he was not releasing her, she finally relaxed in his arms and started sobbing.

Seeing that Caleb was finally making a breakthrough with her sister, Alexandra whispered,"I'm going to leave the house to give you two the privacy that you need."

Caleb just nodded and directed Karina towards the bed. When she was seated, Caleb sat beside her. Caleb just sat there allowing Karina to cry in his arms.

When she finally calmed down, Caleb held her face in his hands and said,"We need to talk and I'm not leaving until you tell me everything."

Karina looked at her slightly swollen stomach and sighed. She tried getting off the bed but couldn't due to Caleb's firm grip. Caleb looked into her eyes and wiped away her tears and said,"No more running away Karina. It ends now. You will talk to me."

Taking a deep breath, Karina looked into his eyes and said,"Do you remember when you left the country on business quickly after I found out about your affair?"

Looking at his still crying wife, he nodded. Karina continued,"I was so hurt and disappointed. I wanted to hurt you as much as much as you hurt me. I wanted you to feel my pain."

Taking another deep breath, she continued,"I decided that if you could cheat, so could I. I met a guy. He was there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on and he invited me out on dates. I accepted." Caleb's jaw muscles grew tense and his grip on her tightened.

Again, she tried breaking Caleb's hold and again was unsuccessful. Sighing loudly, she continued,"One night after one of our dates, he took me home. We started .... we started kissing. I wanted to hurt you so darn much but I couldn't have sex with him Caleb. I just couldn't. I love you too much. He got so upset and stated that he loved me and he wanted to show me how much. I tried fighting him and told him to stop but he wouldn't. Caleb he raped and beat me each time I fought him. Both of my eyes were swollen shut and I had two broken ribs. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me Caleb. I was so stupid. This is my fault."

With tears in his eyes, he pulled her into his arms and whispered in her hair,"I love you too. You did nothing wrong honey. I promise you we will get through this together."

"How can we? I'm pregnant for another man. A man that raped me. I can't give up this baby. I thought about all my options and there was no way that I was going to have an abortion. Although my baby's father is a cruel, horrid man I'm beginning to love this innocent baby."

Caleb opened his mouth but Karina stopped him by stating,"Whenever you look at my baby it will be a constant reminder that you are not the father. I can't do that to you."

Caleb silenced her by pulling her into his arms and stated,"I want you back in my life Karina. I love you unconditionally and that means accepting your baby. I won't lie to you though. It hurts me to know that I caused you so much pain. If I was a good husband to you, this would've never happened to you. I'm so sorry baby, please forgive me. I love you do much. Please give our marriage another chance."
