"Was that you?" read the text. I couldn't respond, to anything. Mom yelled from downstairs if I was okay, making me snap out of my daze.

"Yeah, just a spider," I yelled back a quick lie. I heard a small okay come from her, and decided to deal with this book crap right now. I grabbed my pen from the ground where'd I dropped it and took the book in my hands.

"Emily, my names Emily. Hello, Andrew." I wrote. Emily, my mothers name. I'm afraid that if I tell him it's me, his best friend, he won't... won't look at me the same way. I mean, I'm star struck, this is all... weird. I instantly got a reply back from Andrew in my blue book.

"Hi Emily, I'm Andrew"

"You said that already"

"Oh yeah, right. Sorry, I'm super nervous because I've never done this before and I'm a little dazed"

You and me both Andy, you and me both.

"It's late, I really need to go to bed, but i'd love to talk to you more. Really, talk tomorrow?"

"Yeah, id lové to get to know you too"

"Goodnight Andrew"

"Goodnight Emily" I quickly closed the book and held it to my chest, half thanking and half cursing god above for giving me this. I slipped it under my bed, hiding it from my prying mother's hands. I sat on my bed and cried, cried like no tomorrow. Then, I just picked up my coat, and in my pajamas and converse, I went out the door and into the rain. It felt nice on my skin that had been tear stricken.

Before I knew it, I was at his house, right outside the door. I walked up, soaked from head to toe and with no idea of what I was going to say, I knocked. Twice. His dad opened the door first, with Andrew behind him.

"Oh my god, Amy. Are you okay? Come in, what're you doing in the rain?!" Andrew said, pushing past his father. He grabbed my hand and pulled me into a warm hug while taking me inside. I didn't say anything, hell, I didn't even know why I was crying so much. I should be happy right? Why am I not?

"We'll be upstairs," He told his dad, getting a nod in response. He guided me up the stairs and into his room. we sat on his bed while he rocked me back and fourth while I sobbed into his shirt. "Shhhh," he whispered into my ear. Eventually, we broke apart and he handed me a box of tissues, which I welcomed with a small smile.

"What happened?" he asked, taking my hand. I looked at our hands intertwined, and then to his face. To his chestnut eyes, his dark red hair. My soul mate, right in front of me... "Ems?"

"I... I read online that the mars rover sings itself happy birthday every year, and thought about how sad that is. He's all alone, with no one." I spat out.

"I'm serious Em, what's wrong. You walked down here, in the rain, sobbing. What's wrong?" He said, lifting my chin with his finger to focus my eyes on his. I can't tell him. I can't. We'd never be friends again, it would be so different. What we are now, this is good. I don't want to meddle with it.

"I'm alone..." I said, thinking on the go. "I'm all alone! I wrote in the book a few days ago, and lied tonight because I haven't gotten a single thing back. Not a note, a word, not a drop of ink in return. What if I'm alone forever?" I exclaimed quickly, looking to him. His face softened, and he chuckled a little. He took my head and pressed it to his chest with a small smile on his face.

"Amelia Ragton, you'll never be alone. I, Andrew Mcquire, will never let you be alone. My sole job as best best friend, is to never leave you lonely, so I never will. Never thing you'll be alone, you never will be. Okay?" He said, making me laugh.

"Okay." I responded. I sat up and looked at him. Maybe nows a good time... "Also, I got a text from my good friend Emily," I said, watching his face light up. "She says that a boy named Andrew wrote to her," I said with a smile, seeing him so excited.

"How do you know her? Is she nice? Where does she live? How old is she? Ahh!" He rambled.

"She was a close friend from a summer camp I went to as a kid. She's the nicest person ever, and she lives in Seattle. But," I paused.

"But?" Andrew said.

"She's coming here this winter break to meet back up with me. You could meet her then, if you wanted too," I said. He grinned from ear to ear.

"You're the best Amy, you do know that right. I couldn't ask for a better friend," He said, unknowingly stabbing me in the back.

"Yeah, I know," I said, feigning a smile. This is going to be a long season...
