"C'mon, Delancey. Don't be such a hater." Marina Steele called from the other side of the apartment's door.
"I'm not. Go away." A voice grumbled from the apartment's living room.
There in the couch, sat a girl with fiery ginger hair. Delancey Rosewald, a young woman in her early twenties, scrolled through Instagram trying to distract herself from her visitor.
"Please? Just come with me! You'll have fun!" Marina kept yelling from outside.
Delancey tossed aside her phone with a sigh, stood up and walked towards her front door and opened it slightly violently."Marina, beloved, I swear to God words can't express how much I don't care about football."
Delancey said in an exasperated voice.
Marina was also a young lady that attended the same college as Delancey, and as a matter of fact, was her best friend.
Her dark eyes twinkled as she greeted her impatient friend.
"I already know that, Del. Come on, just one game!" Marina insisted.
She was trying to convince Delancey to join her to watch her favorite team play the North London derby.
Marina, on the contrary to Delancey, adored football. Her favorite team were Tottenham Hotspur, aka Spurs, and although she wasn't very good at playing the sport itself, she loved the passion and happiness of it.Delancey narrowed her eyes.
"Okay. And if I were to go, hypothetically asking, what would I get in return?" She said suspiciously. Marina's excitement vanished.
"I don't know, I didn't think I'd get this far." She said, placing a thumb on her chin.
Delancey's impatient expression morphed into a warm smile. Naturally she wasn't a rude person, much less with her friends.
"I'm coming, Mari. Just for you." She said kindly, her bright red lips showing pearly white teeth.
Marina hugged Delancey tightly.
"You're the bestest bestie ever." Marina beamed, smiling uncontrollably.Delancey patted her friend's back and let go.
"So. What time, where and how do I get there?" She asked, clapping her hands together.
"Five o' clock. Wembley Stadium. I'll drive us there." Marina replied quickly."Noted."
"It's weird though, you don't actually like football yet you decide to join me?"
"It's what friends are for, Mari."
*******
Later that day, Delancey let Marina leave her. She sat in a chair on her kitchen eating a handful of cereal while checking her phone compulsively until five o' clock.
Normally she would deny that she was excited for the game but in fact she actually was excited.
All week she had done nothing but work a few hours on a malt shoppe and she wanted to do something fun for a change.
Delancey got up and walked to her bathroom to apply an extra layer of red lipstick.
She liked dressing up too and examined herself in the mirror.
When Delancey decided she looked decent enough she gave the mirror a quick smile, grabbed her purse and skipped vivaciously towards her front door.
The moment her delicate foot was in front of the door someone knocked.
Without even asking who it was, Delancey opened it and revealed Marina. She was easy to spot as she sported always a ponytail tying back her black hair with a pink ribbon.
"Hey, Steele." Delancey greeted, pursing her lips into a smile.
Marina wore her Spurs shirt and a bright toothy smile."You ready?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
"I'm so glad you came!"
"Don't thank me, Mari, really..."
The two ladies drove through White Hart Lane and arrived to the looming stadium.
When Delancey got out of the car she pretended to be unimpressed, even though she was actually shocked at the size of the building.
"So this is the famous Wembley Stadium?," Delancey mused, still gazing at it. "...smaller than I expected."
Marina rolled her eyes.
"Don't be so hard to please, Del. Come on." The brunette sighed, taking Delancey by the hand and entering the gates full of people. When the girls were inside the stadium, a deafening sound of cheers and jeers filled Delancey's ears. She winced slightly and looked around. The stadium seemed even bigger inside. She turned to see her friend and Marina was starstruck.
"Del, this is the very first time I have ever gone to a North London derby." Marina marveled at the sight, tears welling up her eyes.
Delancey felt a stab of sympathy for her friend.
"Aw. I know you adore football, Mari. And I'm glad you got to see your favorite team play an important game." She said kindly.
Marina hugged Delancey shortly and then looked at the pitch.
The redhead turned her head to the green grass that sparkled when the lights bounced off the dew.
A loudspeaker announced the players.
It was Tottenham Hotspur versus Arsenal.
A player in particular caught Marina's attention.
"That's Harry Kane! The Spurs superstar!" Marina screamed loudly. Delancey flinched at the sudden outburst of joy and scanned the pitch for the player.
"Hurricane? Is his name Hurricane for real?" Delancey asked, rather confused.
Marina guffawed.
"Nah, it's Harry Kane. He's actually very cute also!" She replied.
Delancey scoffed.Yeah, as if.
